| Can someone with some knowledge give me the skinny on these? Which are legal to own in respect to pre '81 and registered vs. not? I own an AR if that makes a difference (I belive it does). |

You cannot legally possess a "pre-81" autosear and a gun it could fit in. Assuming you didn't own a host gun, it would appear that it would be legal to possess the autosear. But that is still uncertain, as it has not been legally challenged AFAIK. Why bother to buy something that you can't use? The only usable, legal DIASs are ones that you will buy though an FFL/SOT after going through the NFA paperwork process and getting your tax stamp. -Troy |

You can only use that sear (un-numbered) in a rifle that is registered as a "RR" and has no "auto-sear" hole drilled in the receiver. I know a county sheriff that has one this way, a PD did it on a Form-1, later sold it, and he bought it on a Form-4 from Keisler's. There is a bunch out there like that, from what I hear. |
