Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ballooning of the main blood vessel which can burst and cause immediate death!! I went for an MRI on my lower back to see if it there where any changes and the radiologist found my aorta is enlarged .Normal is 1.5 cm and mine was 4.5 .Then a ultrasound was done and it measured the same 4.5. Now they want a CT scan to see want else is going on . The VA say they don't do anything untill it goes over 5 cm. So this sucks sitting here waiting to find out what is going to happen . I have a appt. on the 19th of July to see the vascular suergon[ if I'm still alive]!! That is basicaly what the two reports say. www.guidant.com/ Go to procedures |

there is one thing that sends chills..down any Blood Bankers spine.. when the following words are spoken into the intercom or telephone from ER.. " we have a HOT BELLY coming in 5 minutes".. " we had a AAA just wheeled in..." dude..i dont mean to scare ya..but pick the best DR you can..and good luck.. the ones that are caught and corrected before a blow out are tremendously well treated. the emergency cases are wild..stressful and chaotic.. |

Oh bad thing.... On the wait to a 5cm bulge that would be normal for the VA. Stay on their butts or your family will bury you. If it is a area that they can operate the repairs go very well. I have cared for many AAA's that were dissecting, the outcome was not good. |

5cm Prayers needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Going to have surgery in August either a Stent or Open. It is my choice!!!! Believe it or not I am thinking open, but am not sure !! Life is full of choices, to bad this is the two choices I have I would rather make the choice of another AR or M1 |

Hey, I've been following this... but I know nothing about the medical procedure, and the first round of replies when it was just "AAA" kind of threw me for a loop. So you are going to have a procedure. What does it amount to? What is the recovery going to be like? I'm glad you're well treated at the VA. Back years ago when I was fresh out of college and didn't have a job yet, I spent a lot of time as a volunteer at our local VA hospital, and it was pretty bad back then. But I've heard that they are tons better now. So best wishes to you and yours, and do keep us posted. Or heck, come post in the women's forum and we'll shower you with concern. See? You just posted out here in the vast wasteland of GD, instead of coming over to visit us gals |

N_G, quite obviously SOME guys on here don't realize exactly what you were saying... For those that didn't get it the first time around, here's the deal- in simple layman's terms. Your aorta is a HUGE artery that comes up off of your heart, arches, and then goes back down all the way to your pelvis (where it runs in your abdomen, it's called the Abdominal Aorta). It's the artery that most of the other ones in your body branch off of. If it ruptures, you're dead- you will bleed out in a matter of seconds. Literally. The mortality rate is greater than 95%, and that includes if you are ALREADY on the surgical table. Nam_Ghost is saying that his is beginning to bulge (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm). Obviously that's one of the first signs of a "pending" rupture. It can be corrected surgically, but it's still going to be a high risk procedure. You have my prayers. I hope things go well for you! In the meantime, take it easy... don't stress your body too much!
