is so fucking easy. I hate myself for not doing it earlier.

I really really really wanted to be able to play Xbox Live in Iraq, but I couldn't connect my box to the internet because you had to access the network through a log on screen which can't be accessed through the Xbox.

The problem at home is that my Xbox is ridiculously far from the router, and I'm not willing to run a 100' CAT5 cable or drop a shit ton of money on the Xbox wireless card.

Well, I just solved my problem, and wish that I had done it sooner.

I configured my laptop to share its internet connection through its ethernet port.

In windows, you simply open the screen that shows your network connections, highlight the wireless and ethernet connections, right-click, and select bridge connections. Voila!

In Ubuntu, I just right-clicked on my network icon, selected "edit connections", selected my ethernet port, selected "edit", selected the "IPv4" tab, and then changed the "Automatic DHCP" to "Shared with other computers".

That still works the battery. You'd have to remove the battery from the laptop and run it off the wall to not wear out the battery.

Well, damn. I leave this laptop on 24/7. Maybe that's why my battery life sucks ass.

Why not just get a Linksys wrt54g router flash it with dd-wrt and just create a wireless bridge for the xbox?

I know that I could do that, but this was easier. I never use my laptop and Xbox at the same time, so it really isn't a hassle.
