Yes I'm bored and have been up too long.

So here goes:

In most stores I shop in I have noticed all the new battery operated clocks (non-digital) read 10:00

No one around here knows why, so why is that?

Because the workers who made the clock only can count to ten, using both hands.

Because most of these clocks are manufactured in countries that use the metric system.

10:00 is metric time for 12:00 (SAE).

Maybe '10' is a top rating, and some kind of super secret market analysis determined that people are more likely to buy a clock that says 10:00 rather than, say, 4:20?

Probably not too far off, We use a base 10 system, 10 is also associated with good; "On a Scale of 1 to 10"

But I may be mistaken, perhaps it is just to show the clock does indeed have all the digits it should, unless you use standard form (MIL Time)

For the same reason that clocks run "clockwise" - as viewed from the top of the north pole the earth rotates counter clockwise on it's axis. If you went to Australia you'd find their new clocks read 4:00.

Because it gives you a good idea of what the display looks like.

If it were "1:00", you would only see 3 digits instead of the possible 4.

Now this doesn't explain why they use 10:00 instead of 12:00 or 11:43, etc.
