This was my 3rd time seeing him and it was killer!  He kicked ass.  They were recording a DVD so check it out when it comes out.  He is the man.  Real humble, down to earth kind of guy.

Awesome video

ETA:

Bottom of my boots sure are gettin' worn
there's a lot of holes in this faded uniform
My hands are black with dirt and so is my face
I aint never been to hell
but it couldn't be any worse than this place.
Tell my wife don't worry 'cause I know what to do
it makes you feel better sometimes, but don't know if it's true.
I know if I die it's just my time to go
but I pray to God every day that I may get back home.

Well when you've seen what I've seen
things don't seem so bad
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
'Cause I could be raising my family in this place
but I was born an American
by Gods Amazing Grace.

For the last twelve months I've had a new address
the neighborhood smells like sewerage and the streets are lined with trash.
You never know what's gonna be the next thing to explode
but unlike these people, I have another home.
It breaks my heart to see these kids out on the streets
walking barefoot through the trash, diggin' for something to eat.
I give them what I got, just to let them know I care
and I thank God it's not my son that's standing there.

Well when you've seen what I've seen
things don't seem so bad
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
'Cause I could be raising my family in this place
but I was born an American
by Gods Amazing Grace.

You want to talk about it, you better keep it short
cause I got a lot of lost time I gotta make up for.
Really don't care why Bush went in to Iraq
I know what I done there and I'm damn sure proud of that.
You got somethin' bad to say about the USA
you better save it for different ears 'less you want to crawl away.
And I laugh in your face when you say you've got it bad
until you've spent some time on the streets of Baghdad

Well when you've seen what I've seen
things don't seem so bad
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
'Cause you could be raising your family in this place
but you were born in America, By God's Amazing Grace!!!!

I do not understand a lot of things, one being why some folks say today's "country music" is not "REAL COUNTRY".

I have a rather ecclectic taste in music myself, and listen to several different kinds, but not all.

I do know that "kinds" of music evolve. Take "rock and roll" for example. It changed from Bill Haley and the Comets and Elvis Presley to the Everly Brothers and Chubby Checker to the Rolling Stones and the Lemon Pipers to the Who and the Guess Who, well, you get the picture. It was ALL rock and roll.

"Country" has evolved also. Whether some like it or not, country music has changed, but it's still country.

I do have one question though. How often do you see a modern "country star" speaking out against anything America does or against the war? As opposed to say, "rock stars"? I don't listen to a lot oc country, but I sure don't see the stars in the news speaking out against the U.S of A. or our efforts around the world.

I play country music mostly these days.

Lately been doing a lot of the older stuff.  A little more classic cowboy type stuff and old Appalachian like Tennessee Stud and Dark as the Dungeon.  Do a little Willy and Waylon and of course classic country gospel Amazing Grace, Will The Circle Be Unbroken and some very old ballads.   Know a bit of the "Oh lord my wife left me pass me a beer" stuff but don't do it a lot.

I assume you  are talking about my when country sucked comment.

This is my comment on the subject from another thread...

I really like to critique music and pay attention to trends, to a lesser extent in mainstream, more in underground of all sorts.

Right after Garth made it bigger than anyone had ever before, it seemed like the industry went into a money making frenzy that lasted about a year with boy band style selection of bands and cut and paste style music, but unlike pop fans country music folk wont have it.

It died and the country music industry paid the price I think, but have corrected the ship a bit and got back to country's roots of good, down home style backwoods music.

Excellent points. All of them. Stuff does evolve. But the spirit of the music largely remains intact.

I also don't get the "genre worship" so many people seem to fall into. If someone asked me right at this moment what my favorite genre of music is, I'd return a blank stare. I don't like any particular genre just because it's country, heavy metal, jazz, classical or even bluegrass. I have a keen ear for great musicians and or beautiful voices. Being a musician myself may partly explain this. But I can think of tons of performers and performances from nearly ALL genres of music that I really like for one reason or another. That's why I don't understand those who say "ewwww that country or ewwwww that's alternative", or whatever the case may be. There's examples of good songs across all styles. To avoid certain types of music simply because it's not viewed as cool by your peers is to only cheat you out of a number of great songs.

I must be unique. I recall my high school days and openly listening to all sorts of stuff, regardless of what my peers thought. I absolutely loved (and still do) 1960's era Motown. But I can turn right around and fire up Johnny Cash, then AC/DC, the Led Zeppelin. Then I can skip right into George Strait. Hell, there was even a guy who did a lot of stuff in the 90's by the name of Adrian Legg who I liked. He played this really cool classical guitar stuff. Very unique. And I love Alison Kraus and her music. She has a sweet voice and the 2uality of musicians she surrounds herself with are excellent.

I guess you can say I just have a tremendous love for music. I rarely get involved with band or artist worhsip, though some I do like more than others. But in general, I am simply listening for something that sounds good, may be unique or simply persuades me to feel something on the emotional level. Therefore that explains why I can listen to so many varying styles. And I don't give a shit whether someone else thinks it's "cool" or not.

BTW, I agree with you about most country artists being the opposite of Hollywood and and rock or hip-hop in terms of attitude toward patriotism. The only really vocal country artists to cause a stir was the Dixie Chics. And they suffered tremendously because of it. Country music fans and stations alike dumped them. I haven't heard them on any of my area stations since the 2003 incident in which they dissed our prez while on tour overseas in Europe. So they are mainly a pop act these days, at least in terms of following. Country fans won't give them the time of day.

Also, look at the number of country artists who write songs about or are somehow involved with our military and war effort. Toby Keith. Darryl Worley. Tim McGraw (his tribute song to our fallen troops still makes me tear up). Montgomery Gentry and their involvement with POW-MIA's. John Michael Montgomery. You could list them all day. Country performers do however tend to have far more in common with people like us than those from the other genres.
