Searched for this but didn't see it. Sorry if it's a dup.
I wish I could buy this officer dinner, it's just too funny.

What's the problem?  Oh, who's going to pay for the dent?

Did the officer back up to see if he was still breathing?

Nicccccee!

But seriously, he was mentally ill and wasn't threatening the police.  The fact that he had a knife and had already assaulted people is irrelevant because he wasn't threatening the police themselves.  And the people he assaulted with the knife have to understand that he's mentally ill and just get over it.

The officer could have handled it differently. If the guy had a gun I'd have run him down as well.

If i didn't have time to stop and engage him.

They should have backed over him too.
Are cops supposed to know he is mentaly ill? He swinging a knife around. I would not have had that much self control...

Maybe EDPs should all wear collars that deliver a shock when they get out of control...

He had that coming. Had the officer stopped and got out the guy would have run up on his person and the officer would have had to fire his weapon to defend himself. Then the video and outrage would be about "My boy didn't do nuthin' and got SHOT for it!" rather than hit by a car for it.

Why the hell would you use an intermediate weapon in a deadly force situation? That's how cops get killed.

You should research the 21 foot (now also known as the 30 foot) rule of dealing with people with knives. Might be a bit of an eye opener for ya.

i cant imagine why anyone would have an issue with that -  if the kids mentally ill, his family should be liable for any damages and injurys and be sue'd to hell for letting this moron out with a knife.

being an idiot has really got to stop being everyones excuse for every time someone gets what they got coming to them, or in this case, coming AT them ;p

would be justice if the kid was handicapped ina fashion that makes it very unlikely he can threaten others again.... im just saying.

That's fine, I'm aware of the 21'rule (for me it would be 31' rule) that's for drawing aiming then firing.  You still cant run down a perp with a knife the cop was wrong. But the video is still funny.

Have GOT to agree with you on that!

Have any of you heard about the Brian Nichols case here in Atlanta? The guy was on trial for rape when he overpowered a female deputy and took her gun then killed the Judge and a court reporter then later a federal agent. He's now (finally) on trial for it all and is claiming insanity saying he feels like he "was a slave rebelling against authority" and had no idea what he was doing.

Nope, deadly force was authorized and would be considered a good shoot. He had committed a crime that either inflicted or threatened infliction of serious bodily injury to others, and he charged officers with a knife. Also, seeing how he is mentally ill also means he is a continuing threat to the lives or safety of other, especially since he is armed. Deadly force is deadly force. If you can shoot them, you can hit them with a car.

In fact, it was safer to eliminate the threat with the car. You don't have to expose your body to a man armed with a knife in case shots do not eliminate the threat immediately. Also you don't have any stray rounds endangering others if the officers were to miss or have pass throughs.

By reading this thread it shows some people have a lack of knowledge of the law and tactical common sense. Anyone who would expose themselves to someone with a weapon when there are other legal and more tactically advantageous methods would not last long in a life or death situation. And the TASER argument doesn't hold water.

1. Not all officers carry or have immediate access to a TASER in a immediate reaction situation.

2. Just because you have doesn't mean you are required to use it. If deadly force is authorized he can bi-pass the TASER and go to deadly force. Especially since TASER is considered Less-Lethal and by most standards an impact weapon.

Back in the day when I had defensive driving class in the academy, my instructor told me to accelerate through a series of cones, which I did.  Then he told me quickly at the end of the course that the last cone was really a guy aiming a gun at me.  I stomped it and mowed down the cone.  He laughed and said "right answer".   It took forever to get the darned cone out from under the car.   Really I was supposed to throw the car into reverse and back through the course.   I did it their way on the second try.

Maybe, but the guy had a  knife threatening to harm innocent people.  I have no problem with anyone, cops, or fellow neighbors he threatened perforating him with lead, or as this officer did turning him into a speed-bump.

I don't care what kind of mall-ninja training you have, if you discard other weapons in order to go hand to hand with a guy with a knife, you are an idiot.
