To: Assignment Desk, Daybooks Contact: Jennifer Bishop of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, 312-730-8935 News Advisory: Supporters of the Cook County referendum on the November ballot to allow resident to show their support for an assault weapons ban will discuss the referendum plans Thursday, Aug. 10 at 10 AM. They'll meet at the Cook County Morgue, 2121 West Harrison Street, Chicago, IL. Scheduled attendees include Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin and other Cook County Commissioners; Siretha Woods and Denise Reed, the mothers of young Englewood assault weapons victims; Tom Dart, Candidate for Sheriff Cook County; State Representative Edward Acevedo; Jennifer Bishop, the State Director for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence; and others. The referendum on the Cook County ballot in November will read "For the health and safety of children and the entire community, shall the State of Illinois enact a comprehensive ban on the manufacture, sale, delivery and possession of military-style assault weapons and .50 caliber rifles?" "None of us ever want to visit the morgue," Bishop said. "It's not a place anyone wants to be - and if we had fewer assault weapons on our streets, fewer of us would ever have to go there." |

You should have gone to this. You could have pointed out how well the ban in Shitcago has worked. Tell them that a ban in the rest of the state will probably work as well. You could also remind them that the legal firearm owner is not the one who causes the problems. Ahhh, you are probably pissing in the wind. Just remember to go and vote against this shit. |
So there was no criminal involved? The "assault weapons" opened up on their own? I love the token "for the children" piece too. ![]() Get the word out and vote, before it's too late. --VT |
Dear God! Think of the children! |
| So, in the event something like that passed, what would happen to the manufacturers in that state? Would they be given time to find a new place of business, or would they suddenly be forced to close up(if they hadn't already left by the time the law was passed)? |
Screw That! Michigan has good gun laws.....we don't want Chicago idiots screwing them up. I agree with whoever said we should push it into the water. |
| Better yet -- convert the whole city into a "lakeside park," restore Meigs Field and throw Darth Daley in jail for plowing it under while awaiting multiple and detailed charges of corruption, conspiracy, contempt and just generally being a fat-faced, beady-eyed sourpuss. |
I went to a HS reunion a couple of years back, and was talking to a classmate about where they lived. They were telling me how great it was living up there (Gary). How wonderful the area was, and how easy it was to get to Chicago, and what a great place Chicago was. Then in the next breath, they said they were moving down south as soon as he retires. If it is so wonderful, why are they wanting to move? I turned down a job up there when I got out of college. My mom thought I had lost my mind. I didn't want to live up there 25 years ago, and still don't. That whole area up there from about South Bend west all the way to Iowa, is a shithole. |

Just got back from Chicago. I've never felt so naked in my whole life, and I realized it was because I didn't have a weapon anywhere near me. There weren't even guns in the freakin' Wallyworld, and I didn't see a single gun shop. I'll take my molten asphalt and open carry..... |
One of the few givens in life is that someday everyone gets to visit the morgue. |
