I have microwave (wireless) internet service that enters the home via coaxial cable which is connected to my ISPs router with two Cat 5 ports. "Eth 2" is connected to a 4 foot Cat 5 cable running to my Wireless-G Linksys WRT54G router. "Eth 1" is connected to nothing. I have a PC upstairs at the other end of the house using an internal PCI wireless adapter. Connecting it by Cat 5 cable would be intrusive and impractical. Downstairs (also at the other end of the house) I have a PC, Xbox360 and Dish Network receiver. Currently, the Xbox and PC are connected using wireless adapters. The Dish receiver is unconnected. If I connect the Dish receiver to my internet, I will save $5 per month on my bill. Additionally, I would like to be able to ditch the xbox and pc wireless connections downstair and simply connect them by cable, as well. I have another use for the wireless PC adapter and I am sure I can recoup some of my money on the xbox adapter. So, can I just buy another router to solve this problem? Can I simply move the WRT54G downstairs and connect the PC, xbox and Dish with Cat 5 cables and connect a new router to where my internet comes in? Will that work? Obviously I have considered simply moving the WRT54G and connecting it to the ISP router using a really long Cat 5 cable but that would be intrusive and not practical. |

You don't need another router, all you need is a switch. Linksys Switch |

Get this along with the above switch Wireless Bridge It connects wirelessly to your wifi router and into the switch along with your other equipment. -Foxxz |
Aha! That sounds more like it... rather than buy a switch AND a bridge, what do you think about this solution: Bridge with integrated 5 port switch |
