So a day or two ago my PC started up and had the BIOS splash screen (which I disabled earlier this year) and the date was set to Dec 21, 2005. I fixed it, and today it wont even start up.

Any theories? Im thinkin maybe the BIOS battery?

I'm thinking you should upgrade to a Mac. Otherwise pull open the case and check all the cable
connections.

Thanks, but I like being able to customize my PC more than putting stickers on the case...

in this case the first thing to switch out would be the cmos battery.   after that take out all the extra cards " sound cards, nics, wireless cards, memory"  get it to  bare bones,  if you still have issues  i would suggest having it looked at by a professional, especially if you need data retrieved off the system

I replaced the battery and it starts up now...it says "CMOS Checksum error - Defaults loaded"

I press to continue and Windows is loading...

Date was reset to December 31st 2005 again...not 21st

Will it even post or does it just not recognize the HD?  Does nothing at all happen when you push the power button?  Any lights on the MB?

ETA: nevermind, looks like you got it.

So I reset CMOS via the jumper and re-entered all the info into CMOS on the next boot up and it seems to be back to normal...
