I am in the market for a laptop computer, one that will be used solely for the internet.  Most of the city I live in is going wireless, so I will only need a wireless card.  My question is, can I get a decent laptop for under $300 to handle my surfing needs?  I don't need a lot of programs or added extras, juts a decent hard drive and the possibility of adding upgrades as needed.  Any suggestions?

I would avoid the A series IBM's and stick with the T series.  Better built and you could easily find a T21 with a 1Ghz PIII and 512 ram for $300.

However, since we are in the Christmas buying season, I would look at BB, CC or Walmart for a $399 laptop deal.

+1 a low-end new laptop is usually about twice that.

Beer slayer, thanks for the link.  I'm still checking out the computers, but I know so little about them its embarrassing.

Let me phrase it this way.  If you wanted a wireless laptop simply for the internet, what would you get?  Also, what programs would you need and what basics would you look for?  I would like to have one that's easily upgradeable, but I don't need anything fancy.  Just something I can upload a picture or two with () and keep up to date with Arfcom.  Basically, I don't want to end up with a bunch of features in the computer I'll never use.

no problem happy to help.

any of the systems there that list wireless capability would be more than enough for you if thats all you want. do plan on upgradeability for laptops. larger hard drives and memory is about all you can exoect from any of them.
