If it will boot I can get it to the start page and from there it will just stall nothing works the hour glass just sits still.

I did pull the HD and put it in an enclosure it seems to be in tact, I have tried the recovery disc with no luck.

Memory? Mother board?

Yea it is running Vista but what else? how do I check the memory without it booting up, also I have tried SAFE mode nothing it will just stall ugh

Do you have a Vista repair disk? Sounds like something in the windows system files isn't happy. That or take it back out of the computer and connect it to another computer and do a system file check\checkdsk.

Which one? SFC, chkdsk, or repair? they all do something different.

I would try booting from the vista repair cd, and running sfc from the cmd tool. If you still are not having any luck pull any needed files from the hard drive, wipe, and reinstall.

Put EVERYTHING YOU VALUE on an external ASAP!

Then work the problem... If all else fails, nuke it and start over.

Have you tried booting the machine from a Linux live CD/DVD?  This would be an easy to way identify a hardware problem vs a Windows software or hard drive problem.
