I have a rectangular moniter, and the problem that started a few days ago is that the lettering, and pics all seem to be washing/ghosting for lack of a better discription to the right of said letters and pics. How do I fix it?

Unplug it, plug it back in.  That will reset the "controls".

Then use the various buttons and dials and whatnot to experiment with the settings.

Make sure you do not have a large magnetic source nearby, including coils of electrified wire, speakers, headphones (big ones), cell phones, wireless home phones, etc.  The ion gun in the tube uses magnetic fields to fire in the right direction, and further magnetic fields will cause some of the ions to hit the wrong place in the tube.

It could be simply trashed. If it's a CRT, it's getting old now.  Consider upgrading to a more energy efficient, better quality, lighter and smaller flat screen LCD.  Decent ones are CHEAP now.

Throw it out the window, replace with LCD. Fixed!

Seriously, repairing a CRT will cost more than a nice widescreen LCD costs.

You're fapping too much, and are experiencing the progression toward blindness.

Try a new video cable. Also, if you are using an analog VGA cable, switch to a DVI cable if your graphics card and monitor has a DVI connection.

Unpluged it, and now it's working properly. Thank you.

Is it an old fashioned CRT?

They have a degauss function that might work.

If it's LCD, I don't know what to tell you.  Maybe it's going bad.

ETA:

Nevermind on all that.

There's a fairly good chance the the power supply capacitors are due for replacing, whether the unit is an LCD monitor or a CRT monitor.

I for one haven't given up my CRTs and will not be doing so any time soon.  I run dual 20" Suns (Sony manufactured) on my PCs and I have a small stash of

spare monitors of the same type in the event that one craps.   I don't like fixed pixel displays.    And I can run at 2048x1536.   Let's see your LCD monitor do that!
