My computer has a problem,  The curser does not move SOMETIMES when I am trying.  If I do not watch what I am typing it will start typing in the sentence I just typed.  Sometimes it will erase what I typed.  I have run microsoft security esentals and other anti-virus stuff.  Nothing ever pops up.  This is maddining, it has taken 10 min. to type this out.  Any ideas?

desktop or laptop?

what type of mouse?

when you say it erases, do you mean insert? or overwrite? or you just don't type?

It is an older HP laptop Pavillion, I am using windows 7.  I use the keyboard mouse.  It will usually  jumps in and moves the sentence, but sometimes it will jump back and erase or overwrite what I have typed.

track pad I am guessing.

happens to me sometimes, if you rest your palm on it while typing.

you just have to remember to move your cursor away from the typing field.

or you could try to reduce it's sensitivity in the controls, but you will have to figure out what your real problem is.

are you touching it, or is the track pad going bad?

you could plug in a usb mouse and disable the track pad as well.

I almost got rid of my laptop before I  figured this out. I thought the computer was messed up. This is an extremely well known and widespread problem with touch pads as I found out.  I had to disable the touch pad but this was no big deal as  I already used an external mouse.

I make a point not to touch the pad at all.  It does not help at all.  As I typed this it did it 2 times and I never touched the pad.

Have you tried turning off the touchpad? Disabling the software driving it?

Also, how clean is your mouse/mouse surface? Any dust or debris in the movement field? A hair in the sensing area can lead to ..odd... input results.

Cover the pad with a post it note.

It is not the pad, I press the button to turn it off when I type and it still happens.  Any other ideas?

never heard of a button to turn off the track pad.
are you sure it does what you think it does?

Def a trackpad issue.

See if the laptop has a way to disable the track pad and test.

Also, most trackpad have software where you can adjust the settings to help with the sensitivity, etc.
Some even have a setting to help for this very thing.
