Is there an easy way to move files from an old computer to a new one?
I got a new tower and I need to move all my files, pictures, music, porn, etc from my old machine to the new one but don't have a clue how to do it. I don't want to put it on disk to move it if I don't have to, it's just too much. |
The two main ways are going to be taking the hard drive out of the old one and plugging it in to the new one (faster) or using a crossover network cable, setting IP addresses manually for each computer on the same subnet, and then setting up a Windows share and copy that way (eta you don't really need to do it so complicated I guess... just use a router )

You could network them and set up shared folders. Not that hard assuming you have what you need. Then there is the external hard drive. That's what I was looking for. I have a home network setup already so you're saying I could hook them both into the network and move them that way? |

Make sure both computers are in the same "Workgroup". Otherwise they won't really talk to each other. |
