Is there an easy way to move files from an old computer to a new one?

I got a new tower and I need to move all my files, pictures, music, porn, etc from my old machine to the new one but don't have a clue how to do it.

I don't want to put it on disk to move it if I don't have to, it's just too much.

More than one terabyte?  You can get a 1 TB external USB drive for around $100.  I keep backups of everything on one.

The two main ways are going to be taking the hard drive out of the old one and plugging it in to the new one (faster) or using a crossover network cable, setting IP addresses manually for each computer on the same subnet, and then setting up a Windows share and copy that way (eta you don't really need to do it so complicated I guess... just use a router )

get it online on your intranet and just drag and drop all files to the target.

Option one, Install the old drive in the new computer, configure it as a slave and move the files.

Option two, Install the old drive in a external drive enclosure and move the files.

You could network them and set up shared folders.

Not that hard assuming you have what you need.

Then there is the external hard drive.

That's what I was looking for. I have a home network setup already so you're saying I could hook them both into the network and move them that way?

Yeah.

Windows XP and up practically do it for you.

Make sure both computers are in the same "Workgroup".  Otherwise they won't really talk to each other.
