| I have a windows Vista machine. I recently had to restore it to factory settings and all has been running well. Went to power it up yesterday and it is stuck at a screen that says " verifying DMI pool data". Is it dead? what can I do to get it back up to get some data from the hard drive? |

What kind of computer is it (brand, model) and why did you have to restore it to factory settings? I was installing a service pack( that I should have done years ago) and somehow windows corrupted. I used the factory Acer restore that is partitioned on the hard drive. I has been running good for a few months. |

Pop cmos battery out for a few seconds while pc is off. Batteries only last about a year so you might want to replace it. I powered down a d removed the battery. Waited a few minutes, reinstalled the battery and powered back up. Now it won't start. Oh the power light comes on and it keeps beeping. Nothing appears on the monitor. |

Let us know what you find. |

They are cheap and worth replacing just to eliminate that from the list of causes I've have had them last 10 years or more but you never know.. |

In my over 25 years of PC usage, i've only had to change one battery, and that was for a brand new machine that i bought last year. |
