| I thought there would be a computer tech forum here, but I couldn't find one. So here is my problem. My Dell laptop is about a year old and is freezing, locking up, running slow, etc. I'm for the most part clueless when it comes to these things. It is mainly used to surf the web, store pictures, etc. Do sites like pcmatic really work in cleaning things up? I have had Webroot on the computer since getting it. Are there other sites that have programs which I can run to see what is causing the sluggish performance? Or things I can do myself? Thanks. |

http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_1/124_Urban_Commandos.html The bad thing is it might not be a software issue. The computer could have a hardware problem Ram/ hard drive problem. I have seen hard drives fail in 5 minutes or 5 years but you never know. malwarebytes is a great program so that is a good start but you might have to boot the computer into safe mode before you run. |

You had it at geeksquad?
Adding processes won't speed it up any so no. Your problem could be as simple as too many running now. Or running stuff that that shouldn't be there. It's possible there could be a hardware failing but the lack of info on anything makes it hard to diagnose. Find a bored nerd that you trust to look at it. Sometimes they take pizza, ammo or money in trade. |

This is a good place to start: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner ccleaner gets rid of all of the temp files which the browser and some programs cache to the hard drive. It's also free Defraggler which can also be found on the same site has as part of the application a util for diagnosing the health of the hard drive. http://www.piriform.com/defraggler |
