I've had this Seagate hard drive for years and never had a problem with it until 30 minutes ago.

Pulled the power chord on it and the connector sheared off from the circuit board.

I noticed a connection directly on the hard drive and am curious if there is a something I could use to retrieve the data on the drive?

This is what im working with.

Any input would be great. Thanks.

The circuit board on the drive is broken?

If so you probably should buy the same model and use it's board to retrieve data.

It looks like some kind of adapter board for a laptop hard drive,  if its the red and black wire in the picture.
I am thinking you're fucked and will need a new adapter the hard drive looks is fine.

To the left of the wire is where the usb port\connection was soldered.

Behind the now disconnected connector is a 4 pronged, long and flat port.

What kind of connector would fit this port and would it power the drive? This hard drive uses 2 usb ports to power the device.

what you want is something called a SATA to USB adapter, or a 2.5" External HDD Enclosure.  Either one will basically replace that board and allow you to plug it in via USB.  the adapter will be a bit ugly, while the enclosure may cost a bit more (no more than 20-ish dollars total) but will give you a whole new case that the drive can survive in.

Looking a bit closer, the red and black wire is just going to a light at the front of the hard drive. Seagate loves to put colorful, power draining, useless lights on their stuff.

Looks like it's just a regular SATA hard drive. Take off that adaptor that is plugged into it, and you will see the 2 SATA conectors. Then just get a USB to SATA adaptor from amazon to connect it to your computers USB ports. Probably $15.

No chord? Have you tuned it recently?

Just detach it from the mother ship and  mount it in one of the bays of your home computer.  All you need a 3 dollar SATA cable from radio shack. The power will be derived from a spare connector that almost every power supply in a computer tower has.  Of course , if you only have a laptop then a new enclosure in order here.

Much better picture of actual damage. Yea you ripped the power connector off the adapter. Drive is fine.
If your wanting to save that laptop you are going to need to replace the that adapter/drive housing

Its just a SATA drive thats on an adapter board. The drive is fine and can be disconnected from the drive and hooked up to something like a USB-SATA adapter easily.

You could just buy a new enclosure if you want to continue to use it as an external drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0VN-0003-000H3

Thanks guys!

I think i'll be going with the enclosure route.

Maybe i'll get a few more years out of this thing after all.

Again, Many thanks!
