| I finally figured out that my internet wasn't working this morning because of Zone Alarm. If it's on, I can't connect. If it's off, I'm fine. Any ideas? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it did the same thing. Also, are there any good free firewalls out there, since it looks like I may not be able to use this? |

Same here, I had zone alarm installed for about a month and it has worked great, this morning and today...... fucking terrible! Down to using the windows firewall to pass info on about the fires in my families area back home. to the above, I dont think that will work with an air card. I need a mobile set up, as far as I know there is no router set up that will do this for me. What can I do? |

| It's caused by the Windows update KB951748. Uninstall the KB951748, reboot and your pc should run just fine. ZoneLabs is working on a fix. See: Forum |
| Had that issue this morning...after uninstalling and reinstalling, and it still not working, I went in and checked all the settings...for some reason the internet security bar was set at "high", which blocked everything going out and coming in...reset it back to medium and not it works fine. |

Zonealarm is useful in that it deals with the one part of internet security a hardware firewall cannot: Voluntary data leaks or use of your puter as a server over approved outgoing ports (backorifice style) after hitting a rogue file and running it. But this is something your a/v and spyware stuff should catch. I quit using Zone Alarm when I purchased Kaspersky anti-virus, and haven't missed it. ETA: I do have an external router and firewall, locked down tight. |

A router is a good for a first line of defence. It will not stop a virus in an email or ones you can get from some web sites. ZA will quarantine email attachments that can contain a virus. It will also stop programs from accessing the net until you allow them. The best protection is to use hardware, firewall and a good anti virus program. |

Zone Alarm is a disaster. Don't get me wrong, it works great. It's an awesome firewall. I used Zone Alarm Security Suite for years. Where it stinks is that it's a resource hog. You should check out Comodo firewall. It's 100% free and does absolutely everything Zone Alarm does, and only uses a fraction of the resources. Comodo also features antivirus, but I only use the firewall and let Avira anti virus (also free) handle antivirus for me. The two work perfectly and both together still only use a fraction of what ZA used. Whatever you end up doing, you can test your firewall for leaks here. |
