I have two new production Colts:  an XSE Gov't and a Defender.  Both run 100% on a variety of ammo and both are equal to or surpass the Kimbers in accuracy. BTW, I have owned 3 Kimbers and dumped them all.  I had problems with the external extractor on two and the damn firing pin safety went out of time and made number three a paper weight.

The new production Colts are outstanding!  Colt has better small parts.  Colt is made in America unlike the Brazilian SAs.

Accuracy in a 1911 is primarily the function of the barrel fit to the slide lugs and the bushing fit.  It's not a mystery.

Now, I don't trust a manufacturer that states that it's 1911 needs 500 rounds to break in.  That's BS.  It should run right out of the box.  The Colts do.

I also recently got a Dan Wesson.   Check them out.  They are within your budget and they rock.  Series 70 internals, Ed Brown parts and no mim.  The only cast parts on the Colts are the sear and disconnector .  Good Luck.

Last Gold Cup we had in stock was a royal POS fit and finsh sucked , it rattled and i could move the slide around on the frame enough you could probably shoot around corners.

In its defense most of the springfields we get are not much better , but are usally a little tighter

the Kimbers look alot nicer and are tight  but still seem to have functional problems

Last 2 Dan Wessons sold had to go back to the factory multiple times
they may have gotten better since then but those 2 really soured me and we will not stock them again

Of the bunch I would still probably take the Colt too

I bought a new series 70 Colt 1911.  One of the best factory 1911s i've ever seen.
From the flawless bluing to it's fit, finish and best of all, it's flawless function.
My Colt ARs are by far the best of my bunch.  Again, flawless fit, finish and function.
As soon as the 6920s come in this month I'll be adding one of those to the stable as well.

So what is the point of this post ? The fit of the barrel on the Series-70 repro's is abysmal.
