SE5 has to be one of my favorite events I've been to, and I nearly failed obstacle 0. Started out with the plan of attending West the week prior, then driving to SE. After West, I decided that I really wasn't up to the 4600 mile loop to SE then home. I sadly turned north towards home. The only issue being that I had promised to deliver tortillas from Bajagringo to SE. Stopped by a FedEx hub and 2 day shipped a 30 pound box of tortillas. $324 lesson in making promises that I can't keep. Got home Monday, unloaded the jeep and trailer before my wife got home from work. We spent the evening chatting and drinking. I was really bummed to miss SE. One thing led to another and I bought an overpriced plane ticket to ATL from PDX at 9am the next morning. First off I want to thank the kitchen staff. @Draconis @Mimi @Redgoat These three kept us well fed the entire time. 3 meals a day with a set schedule and posted menu. Probably the most organized Cola kitchen that I have ever witnessed. Attached File Then there were the Wednesday and Thursday margaritas. Big thank you to the creator: @GAhunter95 And the professional lime squeezer: @Newguysteve Attached File It was an absolute pleasure to work as staff at this event with @Southerncross. He kept the event running smooth. @YourCoWorker did an awesome job at setting up and overseeing the original run thread. I could only wish to be as organized as this guy. Special thank you to @IHTFP08 @RedTruck90 For helping to run people through the course. IHTFP08 gave me a much need break mid day while I was running people. Just stepped in and took over without even needing asked. RedTruck90 took over range RO duties, providing exceptional help and heckling to all shooters. Especially the ones that sucked. I learned an important lesson during my run, if you are going to try to do some ninja shit by utilizing secret tools, maybe try to test the tools out ahead of time so you don't end up hanging yourself from obstacle 5, unable to free yourself from your ineffective hook, earning the nickname "sloth". Along with everyone else mentioned, huge thanks to the chefs. Every meal was big and awesome, and it seemed like they were cooking practically non-stop from sunup to sundown. Thank you! I'll get a pic of the haul later on. I think I have a short video of the angry goose on the island too. |

Attached File What a great event. All the event staff did an excellent job. They even made the weather beautiful. A big thanks to Geissele they always give us so much love. Rifle range was very narrow which meant that illuminators that could not focus down tight enough meant you got a ton of backsplash from the pine trees lining the rifle lane. |

Plate rack for pistol was at about 30 yards. |

I had a hard time believing the winner only got 1 rifle target. So did I. Still lost. It was only the two of us who ran night, but both cleared pistol. I was surprised I couldn't do the drill rod this time, I've done it every year here, including the preruns. Overall, great event. Was so close to a sweet knife. Guess I'll run night again next year to try again. |

I used a perst3+ and WP elbit -14, illuminator could be focused down all you wanted. I just couldn’t get any/enough contrast on the target area to actually see them. We checked things out two nights after I ran (slightly better moonlight and less cloud cover) with filmless and were able to walk @shelbysguns onto multiple hits with a small amount of effort. Interestingly enough, that was with just laser, no illum. Was a bit of a lesson in “don’t always go full send as a solution”. Moral of the story? I’m saving for duals. And maybe I’ll wear my prescription glasses next time too...... Sponsors rock, don’t forget to thank them all in every manner possible! Geissele/Abraham and Moses, this knife is the most beautiful sharp object I’ve ever held. The nods-nest is genius. I’ve been carrying my 14 around in a hard sided case worried about damage, now, it can live in my helmet shell for transport. Attached File |
