I have a brother that is a lot younger than me (half-brother from a second marriage) who is considering the Coast Guard. He's heard that there is a waiting list to enlist. Is this true to anyone's knowledge? If so, anything that he can do to increase his chances of enlisting sooner rather than later? I get that it would serve him well to achieve a solid score on the ASVAB (don't believe he's taken yet). What else other than that? |

Right now the Coast Guard is roughly 1100 personnel over what it is allowed. There is roughly a 1 to 1.5 year wait to get in. This is pretty much the truth of it right now. Extremely long waiting period, but he might as well get his name on the list. I know the reserve mission is still going strong for the moment though, so he may want to consider going in as a reservist. |
