My wife bought a cheap chicom smoker at Sams a couple years ago. Wasn't great but worked well enough. I tried to do a burn to clean the inside but only the bowl cleaned up. The top is still dirty. Never could get it past 650 degrees. I used regular briquettes for the fire. Tried a technique from youtube but it can't be much different than running a very hot fire to burn everything off. I was thinking of using a propane torch with flame spreader but I don't want get it too hot, bad idea? |

Maybe I'll try another burn but use lump charcoal instead. |

I know what you’re talking about. That is a pain to clean. I’ve just been hitting it cold, with a grill brush, when I clean ash out. Mine is going on a dozen years old. Sams vision Kamado. Attached File |

I simply brush (wire) it into the bowl then clean the ashes out. |

Just use a brush to knock off the big stuff on the lid. Wipe off most of the grease and get it down the drain. Get it hot and use a wet washcloth and tongs to hit the grate. You will be good to go. Recteq says that's all you need to do. They don't even want you to remove any ash or the like that is in the bottom... they say it insulates. Cleaning Your Smoker 8654 |
| On my Traeger, I use a scraper to clean up grease and scale, and also a nylon brush on the grates, then use a shop vac to remove the ash. Trying to get the inside any cleaner than that is a fool's errand. There's simply no need. I do use a citrus based cleaner to clean up the outside, especially the handle and stainless steel trays. |
