That's because Americans are scared of everything.

You have no concept of Swiss "gun culture."

It's nothing like anything you've ever encountered in America.

it's not as bad when you see the inside, the only way to hit a car is if you had some weird squib or something

i can only image how the wind from the cars affects the bullet.

Orville Redenbacher corn field. But in Europe, only half of it pops half of the time.

Shooters can't see the road from the range.
10/28/2016 4:37:35 PM EDT
[#25]
Going down range to change your target would SUCK!

Otherwise, looks safe. Geometry looks fine, so long as that blast wall makes for an effective bullet trap, and there are regs on what ammo is acceptable to shoot, how would you hit a car?
10/28/2016 4:54:34 PM EDT
[#26]
Not unlike working in the pit at Camp Perry.
10/28/2016 5:08:51 PM EDT
[#27]
Different from the typical American range but it would take a really odd occurrence to cause any danger to the passing vehicles.
10/28/2016 5:10:10 PM EDT
[#28]
So, he makes it seem like they are shooting over the cars, which technically they are.

Then when you see him shoot, he is behind a wall that completely covers the road way.

I can't tell how far over the roadway the targets are, but I don't see a problem.

I think another berm would be nice, but show me the stats where cars have been hit with bullets since the range has been there.

That is a pretty nice range, wish I had one like that around here.

Safer driving down that highway than through most urban city ghettos.

Probably can't depress the muzzle enough to get a shot on the road.

Looks okay to me.

I know of a private range not far from me where there is a road that crosses underneath he line of fire twice.  Between the 200 and 400 yard targets and again between the 600 and 800 yard targets.  And the big 1000 yard range over by Williamsport, PA shoots across a valley with a highway at the bottom.

Both places have state approval because the line of fire is more than 50 feet above the roadway surface and I don't think a shooter can even see the roadways at either of them.

I would love a set of those sights on my K31.

The road....no thanks.

Looks like a good option for places with no open spaces for a conventional range and safer than most people think.  However there could be a safety risk if there is an undercharged round or neglegent discharge (like shooting a round off when standing), so I'm surprised they didn't build a wall next to the road to protect against that.

Awesome sauce. or whatever.

Cute

here in America, we have enough wide open spaces for roads, and rifle ranges

10/28/2016 6:40:44 PM EDT
[#37]
Honestly a hell of a lot safer than American ranges that allow you to shoot targets short of the berm.  Quite often the bullets will bounce over the berm, into who knows what that is beyond it.  I have heard bullets tumbling over the parking lot, and over other ranges.

What I was thinking. What happens when someone fires off a squib or slightly under powered load? Mayhem commercial?

my local range is Altcar MOD range, they all point out to sea but most of the danger zones overlap in some way and you are often forward of other shooters .

they have about 12 ranges from 50 - 1000 yards but the 1000 is for mil only , we can use up to 600 .

they have lookouts on the beach to stop people walking past

On Ft Hood, there used to be a number of ranges that crossed over the access roads (on base)...mostly heavy machine guns and artillery. Cool to watch at night. Not sure if they're active anymore.

Looks like an older version of the electronic target scoring system they have at CMP in Talladega.
