Is this guy full of shit or what? A guy posted this on my BMW messageboard: With my 3" Kimber I can get 2" groupings at 25 yards... 45 cal With my Beretta Cougar... I can get that closer (2" inch groups) to 50 yards I shoot from a seated position, weak hand covering the strong thumb, hand on the rest... slow fire. I fire from a Bench, resting on the table in front of me... for the accuracy shots. You are correct, doing that from an un supported position is VERY difficult... I can get the Kimber to hit the 2" circle 5-10 times unsupported, with a larger spread... still within an acceptable margin at that distance. I place a 2" target on a cardboard cutout (peel and stick orange dots/ shoot ans see, etc) of a humanoid form (typical backer boards from a range)... 8 out of 10 in the 2" target, 1 - 2 errant if my breathing is not right, or trigger pull is off... this is not a match grade weapon, but I try and shoot it like one Been working on the Kimber at the 25 yard... it likes to shoot low for my tastes, but it is a carry piece, and I have learned to adjust for the outage on a longer range... really a nice piece when you get used to it The Beretta... gotta say it is great. In 5000+ rounds down range, I have had ony 3 malfunctions, all attributed to CHEAP magazines used... discarded and stock ones... never failed again... the Kimber has taken a few trips to the smith to get running RIGHT... but now that it is, man is it an impressive little piece The cougar 9mm is a little outside of the 2" circle... closer to 3" groupings at 50 yards.. but still is an impressive little weapon... it is usually my eyes that give me the problem the most. Up to 35-40 yards, I can keep the Beretta in the 2" circle. the Beretta is a F body ( I believe) full frame 9mm. I use custom re-loads from King Shooter supply in King of Prussia... they will mix a batch of whatever you need... just supply the brass... they put together a decent mix of match grade for the longer shots... really helps to get consistency in the shots... the plinking ammo I will get closer to a 4" circle at the longer shots For general "plinking" I use either Remington UMC or Winchester WWB 230 grain (.45) American (9mm) I have had the most accuracy with the Remington UMC's... there seems to be a load difference between them... the WWB tend to shoot a little lower than the UMC's... the UMC's also are louder, shoot flames out the barrel (great at dusk!) bit seem to be a little more accurate... Not to say the WWB's are inaccurate... just have to adjust a bit when switching between rounds... aim higher |
