My car drives great, except for when I go a long distance (5-10 miles) start to slow down for a stop sign and it starts to make noises, spitters and sputters then dies. Restart it and it is just fine til I start slowing down again. What do you think it is??? My guess is the tranny is starting to go out.

Go to a garage and have them check for a vacuum leak when the car is warm.

When you slow down and stop, push in the clutch. [ROFL2]

What brand of car?

What type of engine? (4, 6, 8 cylinder)

What type if tranny? (manual/auto)

Fuel Injected or Carburetor?

Personally I ain't much help on new cars, but most anyone will need "some" info inorder to diagnose auto problems, except maybe Miss Cleo.....

It is not your trans girlie.Your trans makes the car move.If your car moves ok and the engine is the problem with not idleing when you slow down or stop. You just might have a powerplant problem.

My guess is dirty fuel injection system.

My car has a problem, similar to the one described. The torque converter doesn't want to unlock once the car get warmed up. So when I slow or stop it acts just like a standard transmission, and I ain't got no clutch.

Are the turn signals working right?  You could be low on blinker fluid.

try looking on the driver's side if facing the front of the car.
there should be a small elec plug that is located on the side of your transmission...

unplug it & see if that stops the problem
a girl I know had the same problem with her 91 cavalier, lock up torque converter wouldn't disengage. [snoopy]

"my car won't go."

"what's wrong with it?"

"I just told you-it won't go!"

Seriously, it could be either a vacuum problem or the torque converter. I'm no mechanic.

The 3 most common drivability problems are: MAP, o2, and EGR. If you aren't 100% sure what the problem then take it to someone who is.
