This was a recent discussion in my criminology class and I am yet undecided in this argument. I'm just looking to see what the board thinks.

Can one be predisposed to commit crime? Meaning they are born with the condition of urges to commit crimes? Such as rape or stealing?

Take this from someone who works in the business.  Each time a felon has children, we refer to it as "job security."

Yes ,I've known many who were really standup guys. They just liked the excitement of a score.
Then you have the boosters, enforcers, headhunters and shylocks who just want to make a buck.

Each and every one of us is predisposed to crime. The question is whether, before we get big enough to be dangerous, we acquire a sufficiently robust veneer of civilization to protect others.

It's in the Bible. If you don't believe the Bible, it's written in blood on every page of history. If you don't study history, it'll be in tomorrow's paper.

I think it's possible... Someone with an obsessive and controlling personality combined with sexual dysfunctions are found in many rapists...

I don't think that automatically labels one a potential lawbreaker, however. But, there's a lot of combined psychological issues that serial killers and robbers and rapists have.

Its all in the enviroment that you are rased in.

Everones home life is different, even if you are born rich, your parents, your friends, your school and teachers, your life experences develope the way your going to turn out.

All that combined with your personallity, creats the way you think and act.

Personally I believe it is displaced survival urges that rear their tendencies. Most people have the capacity to commit crimes but the level of involvement may hinge on upbringing and "neccessity" at the time the act is commited. Some steal for food others steal for drugs, but I believe the truly sick minded individuals are the ones who steal for fun. They probably did get any attention as kids, or maybe too much, it's hard to tell.

I read on Cnn a while back that some people are genetically programmed to such a point that they naturally gravitate towards crime. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. I think a lot of it is how you were raised and your surroundings. If your dad was jack the ripper your gona be messed up in some shape or form.

All human beings are born predisposed to crime. It is only with parental discipline and moral education that most of us learn to refrain from it.
