[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Can the Sig P320 be made safe? (Page 1 of 2)

| The P320 is cheap right now. Are there any aftermarket parts that can make it safe? |

Quoted: we need new threads every hour on this, i wish there was a SIG forum That would require the discussion to comply with the rules for tech forums. There's nothing to discuss in the tech forum because it seems like no one can actually figure out what is going on with the P320. |

Quoted: Incorporate lower slide rail guides into the FCU to remove the majority of slide to FCU slop. The grip module can’t give a tight enough tolerance. That would reduce the sear to striker movement when the slide is rotated left to right. Drill a hole in the side and put a cammed lever in it that binds the striker when activated. . |

Have really competent engineers and machinists build a high quality version of the 320 without the sloppy tolerances and cheap processes. Do this, and do it really well: ![]() Understanding GD&T Then torture test the living snot out of it. Chart and record the results extensively. Basically, eliminate the crappy tolerance stacking qc problem and the cheap manufacturing as variables, and see what you get. eta: for real fun, have beancounters that are gun industry experts calculate how much sig is giving up per unit to make a few more pennies per unit vs what that specific thing does in outcome. Yank the curtain back and show what's behind it. |

P320 is fine. Youtube now consists of videos trying to make it fire errantly. Gunboards are rife with people who just jumped on the bandwagon to fit in. Where are the lawyers? When Sig is getting the shit sued out of them, I'll pay attention. Until then, its just a smear campaign. |

Quoted: The problem with the design is that it fully cocks the striker after a shot. It isn't sitting there half cocked like a Glock design. I think that is the biggest flaw and what makes it unfix-able. Not to not-pick but the GPT fully cocks the Glock striker unlike the stock trigger. I am unaware of any reports of undesired discharges with GPT equipped Glocks though I haven’t really been paying attention. |

Except my Glocks, none of my poly pistols have this play in them. I think thats an inherent design flaw with a FCU based pistol. My Echelon is modular and the frame fit is akin to a Beretta 92. |

Quoted: Sig has lost two cases at trial, one with an 11 million dollar verdict and the other a 2.3 million dollar verdict Quoted: Quoted: P320 is fine. There is a pretty amazing parallel between this 320 debacle and the Glock 21 "kaboom" issues. Some quick research shows that Glock never issued a recall despite having a class action against them. I guess Sig will just have to weather this storm and they'll be good to go in a few years with lessons learned, just like Glock. |

I hear they are completely safe unless they self discharge. Many SIG owners report "ive had no problems with my sig in (x) years." The SIG logic being they're safe until they aren't. Just what ive been hearing from multiple sig owners for a few years. I avoid owning them myself. |

Sure. Redesign the FCU so that the striker is only partially pulled rearward with a much larger sear contact. Even if it managed to slip off the sear, there would not be enough striker force to ignite the primer and movement of the striker would be inhibited by an internal drop safety that physically blocks the striker from moving forward. As the trigger is pulled rearward, the striker is pulled fully rearward, the drop safety simultaneously disengaged, and the sear only released at that point, thus requiring an intentional trigger pull in order to be fired. Or just throw the P320 in the garbage where it belongs and buy a Glock that does everything above already. |

There's probably a mechanical fix, but the 320's reputation is badly damaged. I know I'm not interested in any Sig product at this point, even if the 320 were made safe. I'd retire the platform and start over with a new design, maybe based on the p365. There are lots of reasons Sig won't do that, and I'm actually enjoying the drama. I want to see how far they'll go to not admit there's a problem. |

Quoted: OP, you can keep your barrel, frame, magazines, and FCU chassis. You're gonna need a P250 slide and the P250 FCU to put in your FCU chassis. You now have a modular DAO pistol that can shoot anything from .22 LR to .45 ACP. Could you do that with an X-Ten? |

No aftermarket company in their right mind would attempt to sell parts to FIX sig 320s. As there is no 100 percent verified issue that can be duplicated, EVERY single ad/nd could sue the aftermarket company into oblivion. While Sigs handling of this has issues, parts of the gun community rabidly running with the fear of the unverified unknown has helped create an issue no one should touch. Is the issue real? Hopefully someone can figure this out with 100 percent authenticity/verification without any manipulation/alteration of the gun to show it. Then we can have resolution, and then see what will happen to Sig. The drop issue was diagnosed fairly quickly and was very clearly easily duplicated. So have other big issues with firearms manufacturers in the past, once folks realized it. |
