Say that i flip my car on a country road. I dont hit anything besides the road/ditch. Do i have to call the cops, or can i just get it towed off or tow it myself. SS |
You going to inform your insurance company? THEY will want a police report, if for nothing else to make sure your weren't ETOH |
basically if your car flies away. Although if i was the tow truck driver id probably call the cops myself to CMA, wouldnt want to tow a car for a guy whos drunk and hit 4 children 10 miles back before rolling it. |

In most places you are required to report an accident if there is bodily damage, or if there is property damage caused by your vehicle. If there isn't any damage, don't call. That said... my opinion: The local PD would awfully like to know how those new skid marks & scratches on the road got there. Professional curiosity, you know. |

Your insurance company won't care about a police report if there are no injuries or no significant damage, especially in a single car accident. In a lot of places, no injuries transported no report. Your insurance company is going to want to know about any other property damage. It often takes 2-4 weeks to get a copy of the report, even if one is generated. Almost all the payments are going to be close to being finalized by that time. You roll a car all by yourself and there is no other car involved, or no identifiable other car involved and it is going to be your fault, dui or not, doesn't particularly matter. |

Its very unwise to call the police to report yourself for such a thing. The insurance company only needs a police report for theft or hit and run. Regardless of what many people think, one party being cited in a collision doesnt always result in them being tagged with responsibility by the insurance company. |
Well, if he didn't damage any property it wouldn't be an accident then would it? HIS property counts as "private property" (At least here)
Of course, YMMV by state and all that jazz Also, IME the cops usually find out. They also don't usually take to kindly to you NOT reporting it since it makes their job harder (longer investigation, longer report) you are therefore more likely to receive (multiple) citations. Again...YMMV |
