Are they going to happen? I want one |
|
First we need a Secretary of the Army to sign them over to the CMP. We only have an acting, Bob Speer.
Once on the property books of the CMP current regs/law states they can only sell 10,000 a year, there are only 100,000 in the warehouses left. They will be graded and the collectible ones will be auctioned only. This was the program for the Garands and are all they have left. It will likely take at least 4-6 months to start offering them and you have to be signed up ahead of time with your credit cards already vetted. IIRC it's not a place the order over the internet kind of thing, either - paper. There are membership requirements that require being paid up with recognized organizations. What you will likely pay is the going rates on gunbroker for exactly that, a US Govt marked 1911. If you want one, might as well haunt the auction boards now instead of waiting, it's been a year since this started getting discussed and still NO action. |

I wouldn't. For $1000, I'd rather have a new 1911 with some mags, night sights, and ammo. Actually, for $1000 I'd rather have something else entirely. You aren't the target demographic. They will sell faster than they can get them graded and ready to ship. Also, you don't need to have a credit card on file or "vetted" ahead of time. All you have to do is have all of the required paperwork filled out properly and sent in with the order when/if they do go on sale at some point. |

Really? For a used up parts gun? Nice examples will be untouchable to the average buyer. Won't most of them be armory refinished/rebuilt? That's not a parts gun, as the history is still there. For the guys who claim that sub-$1000, rack grade 1911A1s grow on trees, I will gladly pay a $100 finder's fee if the CMP sales don't pan out. |
