If you were POTUS (or otherwise had the power to decide), would you allow the CDC to manage the current situation* or would you throw them under the bus and put USAMRIID in charge?
(Consider this a confidence vote in the CDC) *Containing and responding to dangerous/ deadly contagious diseases in the US. Including, but not limited to, ebola, Enterovirus D68, EEE, and other threats to the safety and health of our population. ETA: Bump if you vote. |

And the question extends far beyond ebola. Too many contagions coming in from too porous of borders. Too much risk to our own, and while I have certain opinions about Army docs (having been treated by enough of them), I'd still put their dedication to protecting our country and honoring their oath over 99% of civilian doctors. |

Quoted: Looks to me like the CDC leadership is lost. The CDC leadership was given marching orders to keep this under control until after the midterm elections. They failed spectacularly. I still have great faith in the abilities of the CDC doctors, epidemiologists, and laboratory personnel. However, I think the management needs to be completely purged, and many of the silly side missions of the CDC ("lesbian obesity studies", "gun control epidemiology") should be eliminated. |

I've been to conferences where both had speakers and I've been to seminars and engagements put on by them solo.
my take is that CDC are the McNamara's and Ivy League types who read a lot of journals but always scoff at anything they don't believe in but really have not active experience working with the subject. USAMRIID... those men and women have the merit badges of real world, on the job hands on stuff whose stories kick you in the gut sometimes. I'll take the word of USAMRIID anyday unless they try to pull off a experiment without telling me. |

I would have voted for The_Beer_Slayer but that's not an option. I guess he could be put in charge of US AMRIID for it.
