My first thread was locked for simply asking a legality related question. I live in Las Vegas, I have a CCW I carry nearly every day. I have a job and I operate my own business, some times I have a good amount of cash on me if I'm doing a bank run to make deposits. Since living here I have had a gun pulled on me twice, which prompted me to get my CCW. I had an incident recently where it was an undercover officer during a lunch break and I was eating lunch inside my car in a smiths parking lot after I made a bank deposit.

I have friends who are law enforcement, and active military and anyone reading this I would first say thank you for your dedication and service, I hold you in the highest respect for your current or former service. I have a legitimate question, I am not trying to start a thread war, I would appricate sound valid feed back without my thread being locked.

If a civilian pulled a firearm on me I would respond equally as I have been trained and instructed to do, I would defend myself as well as many other people on this forum. I have the right to protect and defend myself.

An Incident took place where an uncover Leo pointed his service weapon at me while I was eating lunch in my car, he came up to my window 'gun drawn' visually identifying me then walking away as though nothing had happened, this entire thing was over in seconds. I believe he was looking for someone who might have been in the general area and committed some type of crime. He was not wearing any uniform or identifying visual information informing me that he was an Leo.

I handled the situation like an adult, there was no confrontation. But I have been thinking more about this since it happened. Does this happen often? What would have happened if I.. How is one to know Leo in plain cloths? Is this more of a Las Vegas thing or is it like this in other places. I don't have any sort of criminal record, I have never been in trouble for breaking the law, except for a single speeding ticket. I'm a friendly non aggressive person but I do want to stay alive.

I don't mind providing more information of the event, I just want to know if anyone has been in a similar situation. Thanks

I honestly don't understand why this deserves a lock, would this be better suited under hometown area instead of general?

You're better off not asking if it's ok to shoot an LEO.  You know the answer.

Im rephrased my question, obviously I don't shot Leo officers. I would be dead. Seems no one can actually respond to my question without assuming I'm have some sort of twisted agenda. This is valid, honestly I can't be the only person this has ever happened to.

how do you know it was an LEO if there was no verbal or visual ID?

I headed chatter on his walkie when he approached my window, he also said he wasn't the person he was looking for but it wasn't clear and it wasn't said to me directly, he was facing the other direction and walking away when he said it. I'm assuming he was Leo, that's why I'm posting here since it has been in my head since it happened. What if scenarios, kinda feel a bit insecure how I should respond to something like this if it ever happens again.

Vegas LEO's have been quite nice to me given the circumstances

Unless you're still learning English or have a mental disability, your entire post is a bunch of hooey.

Sounds like you responded appropriately. You're still alive and so is he.

That's awesome
I remember liberating a golf cart from Mandalay bay parking garage and the cops let us take a picture with it on the strip before we went to the pokey.

Iive in vegas too and have never seen or heard of anything like this. Guy could have been anything from a bounty hunter to dea to a marshall to a gangbanger.

If you had defended yourself with lethal force i would expect about the same level of investigation as there is with any homicide. If it was infact an leo and you overcame the remarkable odds of defeating him in a gun fight when he already had his weapon drawn on you (a stupid move if you drew when confined in a vehicle) you would have faced a rather lengthy jury trial. If i was on that jury i would vote not guilty but many others might not.

Thank you for the input, I have lived here since 2003 and never had heard or seen anything similar to my experience until it happened. No doubt he had the drop, my position was defenseless. If this was a fight I would have been a victim since as he approached the window I was preparing to draw from a holster on the side of my center console, he approached from the rear of my tailgate on the drivers side, my window was open about 4", I'm right handed so it would have been impossible to aim and shoot without completely respositioning my body. I did not react other than removing my seat belt, and unlocking my weapon from the holster, I did not draw since I heard radio chatter.

Don't bounty hunters have to announce themselves as law enforcement does? It's possible that it was not an Leo at all, I'm still bothered that I don't know more about the guy. So this appears to be an isolated incident then? Thanks

Best thing you could probably do is report it. They might be able to give you some info like you were driving the same car or they might crack down on whoever it is that thinks its a good idea to pull guns on inocent people while in plain clothes. The radio chatter you heard could well have been an accomplice telling the gunman you had a gun... I'm hoping some leos might chime in and let you know if it is sop for a non uniformed officer to try something like that. There is at least one regular poster in the nvhtf that is metro maybe you could gleen some info there

Honestly this is what I need for peace of mind. I talked to a few Leo friends since this took place and these guys told me I was lucky to not have reacted but also admitted they might have reacted differently if off duty.

I should probably go file a police report, just in case and maybe get a dash cam.
