What is the most common small stol bush plane used in Alaska?

The planes they fly seem to be less capability and more economics. I talk to guys that fly Skyhawks as a village to village air taxi, "creatively logged" beech 18s, to custom STOL cubs which seem to be more rare.
The personal planes seem to be the nice ones. A PA-14 is my want plane. |

Most common? Without doubt the Super Cub. At last check fully one third of all Super Cubs ever produced were registered in Alaska. That is approximately 1,470 aircraft. Here's one of the more popular PA-18 configurations, tundra tires and under slung auxiliary fuel tank:  |

There are a lot of different types of "bush flying" each has a tools best suited for the job.
Landing on gravel bars and Ridge lines; Super Cub on tundra tires. Landing on beaches for bear viewing; 185 or beaver on big tires. Flying groceries to villages; Caravan or 207. This is what I used to do and hauslp does now. Flying groceries to villages on the Aleutian Island chain 50 to 5 years ago; Grumman Goose. Same job now; King Air 200. Landing on glaciers at 10,000ft; turbine Otter or Beaver Flying fishermen onto lakes; Cub or 185 or Beaver or Otter on floats, it depends on how big the lake is. |
