Nice OP. I'm guessing by the LVL going across the front double roll up doors? I'd have lots of advice to give but it would be from a professional aspect which doesn't really carry over to consumer. A lot of good suggestions in this thread. My daily office for work... Attached File Attached File |

Drill press with a GOOD table. Bandsaw, if doing resawing. |

Attached File Got a company coming to my house to pick up all my woodworking tools to get them to the shop tomorrow. Place is a mess right now. Been taking a load of small stuff that's in the way of my big tools every day this past week. |

If I were building my shop again, I would build it with a crawlspace where I could run power and dust collection. I'd also have a finishing/spray booth and a partitioned room where I could put grinders, dust collectors, and compressors. Anything that is messy or loud. |

| I'm still getting stuff situated so I'll post some final pics in a few weeks. Thought some might be interested in the cost of the building itself. Total came to $167,830.07. Budget was $180K so I think I did ok. Saved a bit doing some of the work myself. |

I figured it would cost me about 250K to build a shop, but the city would think it's an "ADU" to make permits a breeze. Sounds like I was/am right, as I'm in L.A. and everything is more expensive here.  Eager to see the final pictures.

Damn that's looking nice. Do you find the dust extractor hose with integrated cord to be worth the ~$400 cost? It's insane how expensive it is, but almost every time I am using my CT and any of the various sanders especially, the damn power cord starts wrapping around the hose, gets caught on something, or otherwise annoys the hell out of me. I just have a hard time paying that much for a hose and cord in a neat little sleeve.  The other thing is, my shop is a garage with a concrete floor and it's usually filthy and more than once I've stepped on the CT's hose. Do you find the sleeve gets dirty and looking awful easily? This question may not apply to you as you seem to have a much cleaner shop, even before this new one.  @Covertness |
| AG: No, if I had to do it over again, I'd have taken my green Festool Hose and taped a Festool power cord to it. They make some clips that clip a power cord to the hose but they suck. Another thing is the covered hose I have just seems way too long and you can't shorten it. I guess I could station my CT in the middle of the shop in which case, the hose would reach anything inside. I've had the covered hose for a year but just got it out of the box once I moved into this shop. |

The covered hose is about 5 feet longer than the stand hose, and that was another concern I had. Definitely wouldn't fit in my CT Midi. The clips do suck. I could probably zip tie a cord to the hose every 6-12 inches which would likely work better than the clips and save me $400. Originally Posted By Covertness: Just a personal shop. Seems to work ok. I’d image zip ties would work fine also, but they are always leaving sharp edges unless you sand them down. |
