I recently bought a budget upper(yes I know you get what you pay for)

Fired really well for the first magazine and gave me better groups than I expected from such a cheap upper with an 8.5" barrel.

Half way through the second magazine, while trying to sight in my optic it started failing to extract every round.

Noticed this

Took the rail off

No big deal, but I don't get paid to be some companies QC department.

Notice the set screw marks don't line up with the dimple? Is this barrel F***ed? Set screws were totally loose. Not even finger tight. Will proper torque be enough? Should a drop of Loctite be used? Should I get my money back? Opinions? Thoughts?

FYI rail scuffs are from my steel wedding ring.

What brand upper OP?

Gas block needs a Noveske pin job.  If it were me, since I have the means to do so, I'd install the gas block where it needs to be, dimple the barrel so the setscrews have something to seat into, then Loctite the setscrews when installing.

I don't really want to name names until i know how/if I'm effed, and how/if they'll make me whole when I call them tomorrow.

Locktite the barrel and the screws, tighten normally, let dry, should be fine.  I have only one screw on one of my uppers and it holds fine.  Not worth the postage to send it back, IMO.

Should do fine just cranking it down, you could dimple in the right place and add a little locktight of you want.

Always loctite or rocksett your gas block screws.

How is the rail installed?  Is the barrel nut externally threaded?  Or does the handguard slide off after screws come out?

Hand guard slides off after screws are removed. It has anti rotation tabs. Actually quite impressed with the rail given how inexpensive the upper was.

Get the front gasblock setscrew properly located and dimple there and then see what you need for the rear screw closest to the shoulder.

Drill dimples, reinstall gas block, after installing set screws, use an auto center punch to stake the screws at the threaded walls.

The staking may be overkill but I would rather stake semi-permanent screws like this versus loctite.

Negative. Though I used their LPK to for the lower and the mag catch was out of spec. Mags would not insert without depressing the mag catch button. Grabbed one from a different LPK, no problem.

Emailed them to let them know and basically got a "thanks for the heads up."  Didn't even offer to send a replacement.

Again. Not a big deal but some good customer service would have been appreciated.
