Not a very good movie, at all. Still, I can't turn it to another channel.

"Whisper mode." Heh. Typical John Badham hokum.

What is it about?

Roy Scheider plays a LAPD helo pilot. An old Army buddy from 'Nam (Malcolm McDowell) is a test pilot for an outfit that has developed a super-duper-copper-chopper shortly before the '84 LA Olympics. Scheider finds out the real purpose of the thing and crosses paths with some bad guys. Helicopter chases ensue. Oh, yeah, they use the high-tech spy shit in the helos to spy on nekkid wimmenz!

Candy "Girls don't pay, guys pay" Clark plays Scheider's girlfriend, driving a brown Vega.

Saw it at the theater when it came out, loved the loop and looking in the window at the girl. It was cool back then.

A movie now to be found in the paltry Action section of Mr. Ho's Neighborhood Video Store, complete with damp carpet and stale air. You can find it next to "I Come In Peace" with Dolph Lungdren.

Now, there are two Revell 1/32 scale F-16s on strings chasing our hero.

Fox 1! Ah, but Murphy (Scheider) cleverly parks the helo in front of a Korean BBQ place to draw the model of a Sidewinder missile astray.

Ahh, the classics.....  But the TV series that spun off of the movie.  Where would Dana Carvey (TV JAFO) be with out it?

Hmm... haven't seen that one in awhile.  Maybe need to dig out the Laserdisc of it.

Scheider can make anything worth watching and McDowell was such a memorable asshole.

Did Dana Carvey play JAFO in the series?

Oh yeah, I can't remember who played the starring role (Scneiders movie character) but Dana Carvey got his start in the TV series of blue thunder.  My brother and I lived by that show until "Airwolf" came out.
I'll google it and see if i can find something with Carvey and blue thunder

ETA: His character name was "Clinton JAFO Wonderlove"

That's funny as hell.  The first I remember hearing of Dana Carvey was SNL.  "Isn't that special".  Church lady.  That's awesome.

Oh, BULLSHIT!

Airwolf had Mach 1+ capability and Air-to-anything missiles! BT would have been toast!
..... Let the 20-year-old arguments re-commence!

Blue Thunder was a FRENCH airframe.

Airwolf was good old, made in American Bell!

I rest my case.

I'd pick Airwolf. I was always a big Airwolf fan.  Besides, look at the back seaters.  Ernest Borgnine VS Dana Carvey? Go Ernie!!

There's a mod for MS Flight Sim with Airwolf.

Very nice looking, great effects (gear, gun and rocket pod) and sound effects taken from the series.  The flight physics are based on a standard helo model (no Mach 1 ) but it's fun nonetheless.

I like to fly it with the long version of the series theme playing in the background.

Yes, I *am* a terminal geek.
