So the other day when I was returning home from a medical appointment I saw a blimp sailing over my town.
The next day when I was arriving at work I saw it parked at the airport next door. (It is apparently for the Peanuts movie in case anyone cares. )

Now my question: What exactly is the career path to become a blimp pilot? Seems like a real narrow and limited slot.

Years ago I got some flight time on one of the Goodyear blimps.   You press on a rudder pedal and wait and wait and wait and then it slowly starts to slowly turn.  You roll the elevator wheel up and wait and wait and wait and it then it slowly starts to slowly pitch up.

The thought on this is that you had to fly a blimp about a minute into the future. Really great exposure to what those pilots get to do.

I used to live in the south-of-Los-Angeles area. The Goodyear Blimp was a common sight.

At an airshow in Hawthorne, I got to see a fly-by... the GYB did a strafing run down the entire length of the runway! Awesome and stately!

The Goodyear blimp was a common sight in San Francisco too.  Now there is a real zeppelin floating around the SF Bay Area.
