Biden Reveals Location of Secret VP Bunker
The vice president, well-known for his verbal gaffes, confirms at a dinner the existence and location of a secret hidden bunker that Cheney is believed to have used after the 9/11 attacks. FOXNews.com Sunday, May 17, 2009 According to a report, while recently attending the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, an annual event where powerful politicians and media elite get a chance to cozy up to one another, Biden told his dinnermates about the existence of a secret bunker under the old U.S. Naval Observatory, which is now the home of the vice president. The bunker is believed to be the secure, undisclosed location former Vice President Dick Cheney remained in secret after the 9/11 attacks. Newsweek magazine's Washington contributing editor, Eleanor Clift, says Biden revealed the location while filling in for President Obama at the dinner, who, along with Grover Cleveland, is the only president to skip the gathering. According to the report, Biden "said a young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment." Clift continued: "The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn't be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall." FOX News could not immediately confirm the report. The gaffe is only the latest from Biden, who has a long history of political blunders. Most recently, he said in a televised interview that if a family member asked him about traveling he'd advise staying away from public transportation or confined spaces to avoid swine flu –– a remark described as "borderline fearmongering." I remember reading news stories about secretive construction at the VP residence after 9/11. I figured they must be making a bunker like the one that must be at the White House.
Biden's an idiot, but this is pretty low on the stupid things he has said. Probably the stupidest I've heard was when he proposed to give $300 million to Iran after 9/11. |

one observatory place is not "undisclosed". why would the VP hunker down in a georgetown basement? on whose list is "downstairs" a meaningfully safer area for the second in command than "upstairs"? comms equipment  you can practically holler down to k street from there.
either a bs for biden or a wtf for cheney... eta: upon closer reading it appears that biden merely "revealed" that cheney locked his aides in the basement while he himself was on the beach in barbados.

That's why he was given the choice of either being Secretary of State or VP, something he decided to declare on a talk show, because he's also an indiscreet dunce. Give me a microphone, Joe Biden and one hour in front of a live audience and I'll have the nuclear codes to all our missiles, and their locations. Seriously though - why are Democrats allowed to leak secret information with absolutely NO consequences? Anyone remember "Leaky Leahy" regularly leaking secrets into our terrorist tracking? Or Jay Rockefeller leaking secrets of our spy satellite program? Or who was the Democrat who leaked information that we were tracking al qaeda via their cellphones right after 9-11 - only to have that huge pipeline of information go completely dark immediately after the news broke? |
