What's the best way to get a set of your fingerprints taken (aside from being arrested )?

Can I head down to the local PD with a pair of cards and ask if they can do it for me?

Get arrested.....then unarrested.

Seriously, what do  you need the prints for?

Smoke a joint behind a bar when offduty cops are inside drinking, you'll have your prints done in about an hour.....

BTW, the new scanners are a lot better than the old ink kind.

CALL your local PD first. Some will do it, others won't do any that are not department related. Some PDs will charge $15-$50 depending on why you need them and how many cards you have to get. Did your hiring agency give you blank cards? If not, make sure you have the correct cards for what you are doing (FD-258 for example) you do not want a "criminal set" taken. I process maybe a hundred security packages/month from contractors for my agency and prints are always a pain in the ass for people to get.

I have a pair of cards provided by the hiring agency.

My local PD was so small that they didn't do prints, so I had to go to the county jail to get mine done.  They let me go back, frisk me first I think, then did the prints.  Man, that was creepy.  It probably depends on your location.

Funny fingerprinting story:

I went to the local PD to get my prints taken for a CCW application.  I fill out the paperwork that the City Clerk gave me and took it to the PD.  The dispatcher takes the application and runs my info through NCIC or whatever. She turns to me and says, "Put up your hands!"

"I'm sorry?"

"Sir, I said, 'Put up your hands', now."

I raise my hands to just over head hight. She looks at me, smiles and says, "Thanks! You can put them down now."

"Would you mind telling me what that was all about?"

"Oh, there's a warrant out for a guy with your name, but he's missing 2 fingers on his left hand. Yours are all there, so you ain't him. Come on around the counter and we'll take your prints."

Punch a cop.

I guarantee they will take your fingerprints.....

Oh, without felony charges?

You can head to your local PD and ask them to do it. Fingerprint checks are required for lots of stuff (including CCW permits) so they can probably hook you up.

There may be a small fee.

Where do you get the cards?  When I did for an employer they gave me the card and when I got a form 4 the dealer gave me the cards.  Now I want to SBR a rifle, I'm doing that on my own.  My county sheriff does the prints for $10.  Just walk in tell them why and it takes a few minutes.

I find it therapeautic to have the CCW lady hold my hands when fingerprinting.

And its cheaper than a date.

My county PD does them (rather poorly, I might add ) for $5.
