For me its in Braveheart when william Wallace returns to avenge the death of his wife........But the intensity of the sequence in the Movie Heat ranks up there too.

Whatever you guys think, just put it down on the table, I might be missing out on some good movies.

For me it is the chase sequence in "To Live and Die in LA". It is a great movie that I always enjoy watching. The story line is good and the chase scene makes sense, unlike other movies that just "action" it up to make it more exciting.

Final battle scene in "Last of the Mohicans" Not a word is said. All of the emotions / feelings are displayed through actions and facial expressions.

Got to be the last thirty minutes of the movie "Saving Private Ryan" Who amongst us has not sat thrue a movie like Patton or Anzio, The Battle Of the Bulge, The Big Red One, without being pissed off that all of the tanks are just Shermans or M-48's painted grey, with crosses stuck on the turrets. At least in Saving Private Ryan, the Tiger Tanks, looked like Tiger Tanks.

Yeah the sound track to the last battle in the movie " Last of the Mohicans, is pretty cool to.

Saving Private Ryan - 1st 20 minutes.  The most realistic portrayal of infantry combat ever put up on the big screen.  Last 30 minutes.  Yeah, it was nice seeing a vismod Tiger.

HEAT - 'nuff said.

The Matrix - 'nuff said.

A Bridge Too Far - The first attempt by the Germans to cross the Arnhem Bridge.  The way they are mowed down by Col. Frost's men was very intense!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - the final showdown between Blondie, Tuco and Angel Eyes.  Not so much action as unbearable tension - who will draw first?!

Das Boot - The Mediterranean infiltration sequence.  Absolute white knuckle, then despair, then triumph when they finally surface and head home.

The Thin Red Line - The hilltop bunker assault.  Really the only decent sequence in the movie IMO.

Enemy at the Gates - The scene in the fountain at the beginning of the movie when he's shooting each German when a shell falls.  As well at the beginning when the hapless Russian infantry faces German guns in the front, and their own guns from the rear.

Zulu - The attack on the hospital when Hook goes crazy with the bayonet and Assagei.

The Patriot - When Mel and sons hit the small convoy and Mel is using his tomahawk on the redcoats.

All good movie action sequences... I also like the one in Clear & Present Danger when the caravan of chevy suburbans are attacked with rpg's in the ally and only Harrison Ford makes it out alive.....

I don't know if this is my favorite action sequence, but for some reason or another I just love the scene in Matrix where the helicoptor is going down, Neo grabs the rope, Trinity shoots her end of the rope off of the helicoptor and swings out of the helicoptor, the helicoptor crashes into the building on the other side of the street, creates the wave and then explosion, and then Trinity crashes into the other building.  I just think that scene couldn't have been better.  Very impressive direction.

Also the mall sequence in Terminator 2 when he takes the shotgun out of the rose box.

yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..................

The car chase in Bullitt...nothing like the classics.

They're all great   but......

My personal favorite is in the last of the mohicans when daniel day  lewis is givingn the message runner cover fire.  He snipes every single one of the attacking indians from his perch on top of the fort

Just saw the opening sequence of "The One", when Jet Li goes wild in the prison to the tune of "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor". Cool scene, pretending for a moment I don't already know why he is so good, fast, and strong.....

The D-Day scene or end of Saving Private Ryan.  Or Black Hawk Down's insertion scene (I love helos[8D]), or the part towards the end where Eversman runs thru the intersection to put the strobe on the roof followed by the helos lighting up the night [:D]
Enemy at the Gates - The scene in the fountain at the beginning of the movie when he's shooting each German when a shell falls. As well at the beginning when the hapless Russian infantry faces German guns in the front, and their own guns from the rear.

The big battle at the beginning of Gladiator is pretty sweet too.  Everytime I see the arial shots of all the flaming arrows flying thru the air I just shake my head with amazement.

Damn but here is the best 1 of them all.

In the Movie Conan when he goes to the mountain of power and is painted with black stripes, when Rexor comes in and Conan gets in his sword stance.  The music with that sequence is the best.

The beginning and ending gunfights in "The Wild Bunch".

The final battle in "Desperado".

The gunfight in the office for Skank in "the Crow".

Ray Parks in "The Phantom Menace".  Booya!

Michelle Yeoh vs. Zhang Ziyi in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".

The last 30 minutes or so of "Hard Boiled"....think of the video game "Doom" played in a hospital.

The final charge sequence in "Glory".

In the movie Ninja Scroll when Jube fights Tasii the rock demon.........that was bad ass too.

Bank robbery scene in HEAT.

Opening 30 minutes of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. (Am I the only wimp here who completely loses it when General Marshall reads that letter from Abe Lincoln?)

The scene in U-571 when they lose their submarine and have to figure out how to operate the German U-Boat in 60 seconds flat. ("Oh, shit, this is crazy! I CAN'T EQUALIZE THE TUUUUBES!")

The Kung-Fu simulation scene in THE MATRIX.

The landing scene in MEMPHIS BELLE. ("We're not gonna die....We're not gonna die!...")

When LA gets nuked in TERMINATOR 2. (Hell, you can pretty much add the rest of the movie, too!)

The lightsaber duel in PHANTOM MENACE. (Especially when Obi-Wan and Darth Maul are going at it solo.)

The scene in GODFATHER II when Vito Corleone stalks and guns down Don Fanucci.

I'm sure I could think of more, but I REALLY need to get to work...

Another one: The battle of carthage scene from gladiator. Pretty intesnse.

I liked the Kilgore scene in Apocolypse Now and the attack on the death star from the original Star Wars.

Bunker Complex attack in The Thin Red Line.  Even if you HATE the movie, you have to admit that this was an extremely well done scene.

The scene in Enemy at the Gates where the cannonfodder is rushed from the arriving transports directly to their deaths.  Forgive the British accents used to highlight some of the officers voices.

Just about all of the battle scenes in Stalingrad.  Yeah, it's in German, but it is subtitled.  The fact that the Germans speak German, and the Soviets speak Russian, just makes it all the better!  It's a very well done movie, but keep in mind that foreign movies don't get the budget US movies do, and sometimes can show...
9/30/2002 8:49:25 AM EDT
[#41]
I also think Glory was intense from the time the men were singing around the camp fire to the end of the movie.
9/30/2002 9:08:37 AM EDT
[#42]
Black Hawk Down...When the "Little Birds" come thru straifing the tops of the buildings!

Even my wife (Who doesn't like blood and guts stuff) thought that scene was awesome![:D]

Maybe the next movie they will show the AC130 "Spectre" gunship mowing down a bunch of "_________". (Insert anti-American group name of choice!)

They should have let them have those in Somalia!!

Can't forget Black Hawk Down.

All good choices so far.

I'd like to add a few:

MOST of the flying in Flight of the Intruder, especially the SANDY action when they are on the ground.  Wonder if that'll ever come out on DVD.  The first night mission was intense and well done, too.

The Shugart/Gordon final stand is very well done.

For some reason, the subway showdown between NEO and Agent Smith from the MATRIX gets me, from the beginning "western" camera angle to the finish.

There are some VERY tight action sequences in the origional Die Hard, the rooftop scene, among others.
9/30/2002 10:13:18 AM EDT
[#45]
Two of my favorite action sequences are extended (20+ minute!) movie climaxes.

The first is the ending of ALIENS, from the attack on Operations ("You want some of this!?!?") to the the showdown with the Queen ("Get away from her YOU BITCH!").  Just fantastic combination of action, visual effects, firepower, scoring and story.

The second is the ending of DIE HARD, from the point that McClain figures out the roof is set to blow until Hans hits the deck ("Gee, I hope that's not a hostage...").  Just awesome action, editing and seamless storytelling.  Although in the DVD they do point out that there's no ambulance in the back of the truck at the beginning of the movie when the terrorists unload, they decided that story point later on in making the film [:)]!

Can't forget the movie Cyborg when Van Dam is fighting that guy in the water and does that helicopter kick that was cool as shit too.

Also when Danny Glover and Mel Gibson Fight Jet Li at the end of Lethal Weapon.

I'll go against the flow here and mention the final gunfight in the movie Grosse Point Blank.  Good action, relatively realistic gunplay (actual magazine changes), and witty dialog.  Also, the gunfight in the train station from the movie The Long Kiss Goodnight.  Not very realistic, but good action and great dialog.

"We jumped out of a building!"

"Yes, very exciting.  Tomorrow we go to the zoo."

The "Going out in a Blaze of Glory scene" at the end
of 3000 miles to Graceland.
No thats the way to go out!
