I dont really understand what is bre ban and post ban. I assume bayonet lugs, flash hiders and collapsable stocks where illegal and are now legal. My question is, and not trying to start a panic or anything, but what happens if they reinstate the ban? Do I get to keep my rifle? I want to hear from you guys that had ARs before the ban, or anyone else that can post some helpful info.

Reason for asking : I get alot from freinds and family about my new gun. Questions like, is that legal? Why did you buy it? What are you going to do with it?

I answer..

Yes its legal, the company built it for me.
I wanted it.
I will use it to hunt and shoot.

I know my gun is legal, I just want to know what happens if some jerkoff changes things.

The BAN is dead.

If they "reinstate" the ban, I would plan on them making your AR-15 illegal all together, or class 3

any new ban will presumably grandfather existing rifles like the 1994 ban did.  I have some AR's with LEO markings as well as magazines , not worried about them whatsoever.  I think LEO markings are cool and serve as a reminder that our gun rights are always in jeopardy.

First off, there wasn't really an assault weapon ban. Only a "evil" feature ban. Collapsible stocks, bayonet lugs and flash hiders were not banned. Out of 5 "evil" features listed on "assault" weapons, you could have only 2. So if you had a M1 Carbine, you could have a detachable magazine and a bayonet lug. On AR's you already had a pistol grip and a detachable mag, so there were your two items.

Second, pre-bans were rifles made before the ban took effect. They were grandfathered in so you would have all of the "evil" features.

If they put another ban in place, most likely your rifle will be grandfathered in. If the go the confiscation route, you have 3 choices. Turn it in and lose your Rights, keep it and become a instant criminal for just owning it, or vote from the roof tops when they come to your house to take it away. If they start to confiscate these rifles, you can bet that there are going to be quite a few that vote from the roof tops. Not all, but quite a few. You can only push Americans so far.

As for people questions, if they ask why you bought it. Just reply, "Because in America, we are SUPPOSE to be FREE. Or did you forget that? I wanted it, I wanted to become a man and have the ability to protect my family if I absolutely had to and I wanted to exercise my Right to defend our Constitution and MY FREEDOM if I absolutely had too! The 2nd Amendment is there for a reason and it isn't about duck hunting or target shooting. And I may want to hunt with it when I am not target practicing with it." There ARE people that hunt with AR's.

Usually, when people start looking at you funny when you have a black rifle, just invite them to look at it or go shooting with you sometime. Once they put that rifle up to their shoulder and pull the trigger, a big grin comes over them and they are hooked. 9 out of 10 dentists agree!

That is potentially a cool Sig line!!!

On an interesting note, the June issue of COMBAT ARMS magazine showed 4 rifles on the front cover.  Of the 4, only the FAL clone was a Pre-ban configured weapon.  the AR had no lug or FH and an A2 stock, the AK had no FH and had a fixed stock, the M1A springfield had no pistol grip.  But, someone not familiar with the law/rules could easily look at the photo and say: "I see 4 assault rifles!"

Nice reply mcnielsen.

My GF handed my .308 AR right back after she shot it and never wanted to try it again. LOL. She did like it though, if she sticks around, i'll get her an AR-15. She just didnt like the .308 rounds.

What does grandfathered mean? I can keep mine, but you cant buy anymore? So what happens when I die, my kids get to keep it?

Its a freedom is right, I bought it for protection, but it also has practical hunting uses. I will just look cooler than the other hunters. No big deal. I could even say its safer to hunt with my AR then some junky 300 dollar "hunting" rifle. It puts the bullet exactly where I want it. Every time. I can shoot the nuts off a flea at 200 yards.

Roof Top Voter...

Can spell, just cant type.
