Quoted: If you don't mind me asking, how much do you have in it? Money is pretty tight, but this is something I'd consider saving up for... You'd be surprised... I bought it from govliquidation.com (DOD surplus contractor) for ~$1100. By the time I got it home after paying a guy to trailer it to me and what not, about $1700. Maintenance stuff, around $300. I obviously have a leak (its the transfer case output seal) but I'm waiting to fix that when I put in my new axles, since I have to pull the driveshaft then anyway. I found the new axles on craigslist for $300, but those arent really a necessity. 10 bolts are pretty weak though, especially when you go with larger more aggresive tires. I'm still working on the interior. I'm going to LINE-X the tub, and put new seats in it. I'm watching for seats out of an 01-07 Silverado. Not in a hurry, so I'm just watching for a deal. |

My fire company has one for a forest fire truck and it is built tough as hell...
THE ONLY POSITIVE THING I CAN SAY ABOUT THEM!! The thing is so torquey that it was spinning climbing a 30 degree hill in 1/4 inch of mud with 250 gallons of water over the rear axle!!(Could've been the Good Year Wrangler AT Radials, i found out years ago working for the forest service in my state those were worthless off anything but pavement, even though they looked like they a good aggressive tread.) I dorve it down an interstate highway for 40 miles one way and 40 miles back, I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, due to NO interior insulation it sounds like a friggin NASCAR is racing in the cab, my ears statrted hurting so band i had to roll down the windows to get them to quit ringing. |

I replaced all the window/door seals on mine and it helped out a lot. Its loud, but I can carry on a conversation with passengers in the rear seat of mine at 70mph. |

Check this one out. Awesome. Even has A/C. I was watching it on EBAY but just don't have the cash to get it right now. It didn't sell. I'm guessing this cat wants at least 8k for this one. BTW, nice job with yours. I envy you.

I see a lot of those auctions read "Does not start, unknown running condition". Wondering if this is just dead battery issues or problems much deeper? Did yours run when you got it? I work on a damn base and they never have any for auction here. +1 I've been contemplating for some time about that. I may just buy one if the price is really good and go from there. Kinda like a lottery ticket I guess. |

Kinda like a lottery ticket I guess. I bought mine without looking at it (other than pics). I tossed the dice and came up a winner. Mine started right up, even had a full tank of diesel. If you can preview, thats the best bet, but AFAIK they won't let you start any of them anyway. Most of them do run, GL is just lazy. If they don't have a key for it, they list it as not running, same if the batteries are dead. Worst case scenario short of a blown motor, is a bad injector pump. Those run about $4-500 for a quality rebuild. You need to budget for that anyway, as it will go out sooner or later. 20 some odd year old rubber seals start to deteriorate. I knew how much I wanted to spend, and what it might cost me, worst case. I went for one with a decent body (NO rust) and figured if the motor was shot, I could part it out for more than I paid for it, if I had to. |

The ones we had at our armory topped out around 50-55mph on a good day. |

Those do top out at 55mph, downhill, with a 100mph tail wind! M1009's are geared 3.08. I've pegged the speedo before on my 1009. Quoted: Nice, but is it pissing all over your driveway or was that something else? transfer case output shaft seal is going bad. I'm going to replace it when I put in the new axles, cause I have to pull the driveshaft then anyway. For now, I just add some ATF to the T-case from time to time. Quoted: Did you put the chevron on the doors to be used as an aiming point? Thats an Inverted V Mister. |
