So, I've tried two different files, both JPG, less than 20k and 175X95....when I upload, nothing happens it doesn't say anything, it just kicks me back to the main edit profile screen and my old avatar is still there. No warning messages or anything...

Any help???

What is it supposed to be?  I'm seeing

When you change your avatar do a forced refresh of the webpage to force
your browser (ctrl+F5 for IE of FF) to download the information again
and not use what it has stored in it's cache otherwise it can take a bit
for your browser to catch up.
Caching is why you see multiple tests in a row from the same posters
in the Avatar Test Thread

When in doubt, dump your cache or press Shift+F5

Just what IS the procedure for uploading an avatar pic?  I've clicked on the "Upload Avatar" link on my edit profile page.  I just get returned to the top of the page with no apparent means available to select/upload my pic.

If somebody could provide the procedure, or a link to it, I'd be very grateful.

Edit Profile>Upload avatar should bring you to this screen:

Thanks for the quick reply.

Still no joy.  What I see instead of the Upload Avatar dialogue is a Usage Statistics block.

What link is your browser showing when you hover over Upload Avatar?

Are the other link buttons on the Edit Profile screen working?

What Browser are you using?

The URL I see when I hover is http://media.ar15.com/media/uploadAvatar.html

In that area, I get the same response from the Upload Bio Pic link (http://media.ar15.com/media/uploadBio.html). The Edit Biography link and the rest of the links on the Edit Profile window work just fine.

Browsers: I've been using Safari 5.0.1 and Firefox 3.6.3 under Mac OS X 10.6.4.

I just tried it with IE8/WinXP.  Same results.

Unfortunately, my problem is that I can't even get to the point where I choose my avatar file for upload.  The avatar is already sized to 170x95 and weighs in at 19.2K.

Not that I know of.  I was a basic member until yesterday, when I upgraded to Bronze.  That's the only change I know of in 2 years.

Just for fun take a look in your hosts file and see if there is anything amiss in the there.  Copy and paste the entire contents here if you aren't sure what to look for regarding what could cause problems.

Clear your caches too and do forced reloads of the pages.

Phil,

You've stumped me! I have no clue what a hosts file is.

I have dumped the cache and forced page reloads in all of my browsers - still no joy.

OK - I took my avatar file in to my work computer.  The upload block appeared with no problem, and it took my image without complaint.

So, it's clearly an issue on my home computer. Since I don't intend to continually upload avatars, I consider the problem solved.

Thanks to all for your kindness and assistance.
