I lost all the coolant (not freon, the other crap that doesn't hurt the ozone) in the A/C in my Jeep. I noticed towards the end of last summer that the A/C wasn't cooling as well as it use to. I estimate it took a month or 2 for it to loose its cooling ability, so I'm assuming it is a very small leak. I was going to bring it in for service prior to the warm weather, but noticed at a local department store that they are selling do-it-yourself coolant replacements, along with A/C sealers and lubricant. Does anyone have experience with this stuff? Does it work, or will it harm the A/C? I'm not working, so I'd prefer to take the cheap approach unless I don't have a choice. Any advice from you auto-tech guys would be appreciated. |

I did that in my truck when a leak in the condenser caused me to lose all my coolant. Get a kit, and a smaller bottle of the coolant with a sealer in it, and probably one with some lube in it (to lube your compressor) and a bottle of plain coolant. Figure out how much your compressor/AC system needs, and try to get around the same amount. My system wouldn't let it overcharge, so I didn't have to worry. It's easy! |
