It's the time of the year for us, where we write a few good sized checks to some charities that we love.
We do St Judes, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, but this year we want to add something along the lines of "Feed the Children". We do other stuff for the Marines Home, food pantries etc., throughout the year, but these are once per year things we are about to do. We do not want to give money to anyone who misuses the money, we want it to go to a charity that really uses it for the benefit of those that they say it helps. Please enlighten me as to a charity like this. Thanks, and Merry Christmas |

There's a couple of different websites that grade the various charities. This may help you find something you are comfortable with. As for us, we've been sponsoring a child through ChildFund for a number of years. We're satisfied with the work they do and receive feedback directly from our sponsored child. Good stuff. |

Sponsoring a child can be nice, especially if you have a kid the same age. We watched ours grow up. Got some touching letters and drawings. We use this group.

| I don't do cash either. Most, not all, charities miss-manage money. If you want someone to actually get your help, Feeding America is a good start so is the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, work at a soup kitchen or simply donate the equivalent in food items to a local food bank. Personally, I do all I can for the local food including donating my time to help ship food stuff to the community. |

These three are relatively sizable donations, and it'd be really hard to make this happen in a non cash manner. We feel good about St. Jude's, and CF Foundation. St. Jude's has a good rep, and we know the CF Foundation does great stuff, as my niece has CF, and my brother has had allot of interaction with them.
I'll hit the charity navigator thing, and have a look. |
