Does anyone have personal experience with artificial disc replacement in L5/S1. Specifically the ActivL artificail disc.
I have recently seen 2 back Drs for a torn disc at L5/S1. The first Dr. is kind of old school and only does Spinal Fusions, but doesnt really want to do one on me because of age and (30). I went to a second Dr. today and he recommends a disc replacement and said I would have greater benefit in that then a fusion. I am nervous as shit about having any type of back surgery and was looking for personal experience any of y'all may of had with it. Currently I have done PT for over 6 months, Chiropractor, and Injections and nothing is making it better. |
| Have you seen a orthopedic surgeon or a neurologist? If the former, I would go to the latter and get an MRI first. Jumping from shots and therapy right to fusion seems drastic. Depending on what is wrong, they can sometimes do minimally invasive and snip the disc. |

<My avatar shows my last and 4th surgery. L4-L5-S1 fused together. I have filmed quite a few of these surgeries in the past, with both artificial discs and donated, i.e., cadaver discs. If I had the choice I'd go artificial. |

I am wanting the Artificial disc over fusion, but don't know much about it and the long term outcome of them. Quoted:
