Just say what you mean in the first place up front and be honest (i.e. "A tacky monument can go elsewhere") and don't try to cloak it in something more noble than your own personal preferences and deep-seated personal dislike of Trump.

If this were any other president, Congress would be convening and exploring ways to oust this clearly not well President.

Snipers on the Arch? Who will they be sniping, all those liberals commuting in from Virginia????

Trump is clearly not mentally well, and with all that's going on in the world, I can't believe he is spending his time on this crap. What a buffoon.

Is Trump planning on presenting Xi coloring books and draw explody things around Taiwan?

I wish a camera crew could follow Trump for an entire day. I suspect many of us would be alarmed at what we would see.

I hope congress drags hegseth in and ask him if the military actually asked for a sniper tower there lmao. unless you're planning for a zombie apocalypse where the dead rise out of their grave, why exactly does the 'military' need a sniper tower there? and i thought the ball room was going to be the 'drone base' hegseth must've cringed when he saw that tweet.

This is just a dumb, childish loophole to get funding for a vanity project because trump is convinced people are going to be worshipping him for thousands of years.

That would be fascinating.

"sir, can we discuss Iran, there is an urgent matter?"

>"fuck off, im having an important meeting about the reflecting pool and then discussing arch blueprint updates"

and everytime he does have a meeting about iran he'll have to give a call to his stockbroker to tell him what he's about to tweet out publicly...

Memorial Circle is not a part of Arlington National Cemetery.  There are three primary roads between the entrance to ANC and the circle.

Memorial Circle is located in the area commonly called the National Mall and Memorial Parks, which is managed by the National Parks Service.  It is not technically on the National Mall or in DC.  It is in Virginia, just like ANC.

There are over 100 monuments, memorials, statues and historic sites in the surrounding area.

Memorial Circle is neither hallowed or sacred ground.  It is a traffic circle.

Memorial Circle has had plans for some type of monument since 1925, shortly after the Lincoln Memorial was finished.  The original plan was for two 166’ columns, one representing the North and one representing the South, that would frame the view of the Lincoln Memorial. This symbolized the reunification of the country after the Civil  War. The “framed view” of the columns and the Lincoln Memorial would be from Arlington House.

I think it is reasonable to disagree with the particular structure or design, but arguing a monument should not be there and creating false reasons like it being in ANC, it is hallowed ground or there shouldn’t be monuments in the area is disingenuous.

As someone that visits the area quite frequently and enjoys learning about the symbolism designed into the Mall and the individual memorials, I would rather see the original columns built.  I don’t oppose Independence Arch, but maybe it is not right for that area. However, that doesn’t mean it should remain an empty space void of any important memorial.

Those aren't very nice things to say about "Team Trump".

But the mid-terms will certainly be interesting.

After Joe Biden's decline & Kamala Harris's disastrous go in 2024, a Democrat politician shouldn't be able get a job mopping a floor, much less elected to Congress.

Yet even with massive Republican attempts to cheat (massive partisan redistricting), the Democrats actually look likely to take the House & possibly the Senate thanks to Trump's bumbling Idiocracy.

* Illegal Tariffs & retarded Trade Wars Temper Tantrums instead of smart negotiating - so much for "The Art Of The Deal.
* Threatening to invade our own Allies.
*Starting a expanding Middle East war with no end in sight that has massively disrupted energy supplies doubling Americans fuel prices & spurred ever further Trump-flation,
*Botched "renovations" from corrupt no-bid contracts to his cronies.
* Desires to build ever grandiose"tributes" to himself as if he were a modern Emperor.
*His own self dealings vastly enriching himself & family at a incredible level of corruption literally off the charts while he is in office.
Did a Russian Oligarch pay for Your kids lavish two day wedding reception in the islands?  Do you tweet market moving posts - after have bought or sold positions?
* Instead of focusing on what American families need, Trump wastes his time with posting idiotic memes, AI Fantasies, and stupid tweets that historians will find as a fascinating documentation of his increasing mental decline & fantasy world.

Democrats - especially with their loony "New Socialism" should not have any chance for winning in 2026.

Yet thanks to "Donald The Dumb Ass" they are now looking to win Congress.  Great job Mister President.

A very reasoned & rational post.

Thank You for your positive contribution to this thread.

It is not unfitting for a Memorial to be built in Memorial Circle.

But perhaps something less gaudy (and lacking weaponry to be used against Americans) would be a more 'unifying' symbol.

Having lived in DC in the years after 9/11 I noticed a few “interesting” buildings that are probably not what they appear to be. Having a 250’ tower bristling with AA/Drones is probably not a bad idea.

Drone strikes on DC launched from converted shipping containers is probably a real concern

I didn’t see anything about weapons to be used against Americans.  Did he claim that or is it just being made up?

The military angle is likely to avoid the constant fights with liberals about anything he plans.

That doesn’t change my opinion on my preference for the original reunification columns, but I really don’t have a reason to get bent out of shape on the matter.  There are already a few ugly ass monuments and buildings in DC that were not built under the Trump presidency.

Drone & sniper base seem much more "Anti-personnel" level.

Perhaps Trump fears another "insurrection" in D.C.?

Against whom do you believe a sniper  on top of "Trump Arch" would be effective?

Hitting Communist Cuban leadership or the Iranian Ayatollah from a shot fired with a rifle from the top of the "Arch De' Trump" would certainly quality in the record books as "Worlds Longest Sniper Shot".

But using logic - based on weapon range. It would seem highly likely that someone(s) in D.C. would be the likely intended target(s) of short range weapons.  The population in D.C. is very heavily US Citizens.

Protection (A.A. missiles & security teams & snipers) are already at locations such as the Whitehouse, Congress & Pentagon due to key people & function of Government.

What is the "key function" of Goverment ... for the "Arch De' Trump"?

If Trump wants to build defensive towers that the Military feels necessary for the protection of D.C. then feel free to say & do so, ...

...  but don't keep pissing down everyone's backs and tell us it is raining (that this boondoggle will be now become a "national defense military asset" just to try to skip his own Congress.)

So who would these snipers and drones be for? Left wing lunatics? I doubt such a thing would be needed. I could see this be useful against trained militia or other groups like us who are well equipped and trained trying to fight back against tyranny, but they wouldn’t use it against us would they ?

and ill also add that is a terrible defensive. Pinned down, no option for easy escape, easy targets from long range. Just no. Terrible for guerrilla warfare

Clearly, those are the only choices we have.  Arc de Triumph - or pedo orgies in the 2nd grade classes.  Are you for orgies?  Are you?  Didn't think so.

On to the next question - are you for giving President Trump a lifetime pension of $300,000,000 a year or orgies (but this time with donkeys)?  Remember, you must chose between those choices.

as has been stated the 'snipers and drones' is just an attempt to get the thing approved based on some sort of mil requirement. to take it as a real thing that is necessary and comment on that is to miss the real reason this was even brought up.

is typical trumpism, like the kennedy center and the ballroom. trump wants certain things done and he uses interesting reasons to get them done.

his time is short and he's filled with megalomaniac ideas.
