So I applied back in February, interviewed for the apprenticeship in May and got called Wednesday for a job that starts north of Cincinnati on Monday as a first step apprentice.

I have a general idea what they do but does anyone have firsthand experience?

To add, always wear whatever PPE you are required to wear, no matter how bulky/hot/uncomfortable it is. If you get to bring your gear home, practice manipulating your tools in your gear to increase your dexterity.

Get a copy of the current NETA  ( National  Electrical  Testing Association]  Association ) manual for commissioning  and testing of electrical equipement.

In addtion , get the Cablemen's Handbook. It is loaded with informating that you will find useful.

If you have any futher questions ask. I build, commision and maintain   transit  substations in the North East.
