Watcing a show on the Travel channel And apparently the orginal stuff is illegal cause of "bad things". VERY potent but no liquor flavor?? |
|
I've tried it, but sadly my friends and I were trying to share it so nobody drank enough to get all hallucinagenic. All we got was really, REALLY drunk on not very much alchohol. Another buddy of mine purchased the ingrediants to brew his own. Said he had a pretty good time. I do believe an arfcommer drank a bunch some time ago (probably on archive) and kept a running kindof journal in the thread he started. Don't know of mods shut it down for illegal activity or not. EDIT: This thread from quietshootr may be the one in question. |
... QuietShooter, he's since been banned, His wife MarianLibrarian left at the same time |

+1 on not drinking enough to get hallucinagenic. Too many people drinking every time we get some! This past friday, we only had one bottle for six people, brought back from Israel by a colleague. That 1 liter or so got us drunk, but chasing it with beer got us more drunker , much more.Relatives in Ukraine at the moment, will be coming back with a LOT of real Absenthe, good stuff. Will make sure to 'research' this topic fully when they get back |
Ah, that's right. Thanks for the reminder. |
| I had it before. For one it is not illegal. It is only banned by the FDA. You cant make it here. It uses worm wood. ie. Europe. One cannot compare brands, Moulin Vert is the only one safe. Though it is high in alcohol it must be prepared right with cold water and sugar cubes. It has the taste and smell of super strong anise. It has the effect of mega coffee and since it is a convulsant your stomach "pangs" the whole time. It is kinda like mediocre paper acid. You can order it on the net and it will go through customs. |
Well, they just said the older stuff IS illegal. But the newer stuff isnt..

True absinthe which is banned in most countries I beleive, contains wormwood. The stuff we get legally has petite wormwood -same flavor for the most part -no narcotic effects. Wormwood (artermisia absinthium) is a herb that has psychoactive and hallucinogenic properties. Wormwood is said to affect the neuro receptors in the brain in a similar way to THC (the psychoactive component present in cannabis). |
I just read the whole thread....and I still can't figgure out why he got banned. Anybody? |
Wasnt banned for that, banned for posting a map of the country of Niger and the word please photoshopped in for the capital |
FDA doesnt agree with your sources. |
It all depends on whether or not you got real absinthe (with real wormwood) or fake absinthe (with fake wormwood). It's the difference between Amstel Light and Sharps. Most of the absinthe people buy is BS because it doesn't have true wormwood in it. AFAIC, if it doesn't have wormwood it's not the real thing. |
**wait, that didnt sound good**
