For the last 2 years I've been drinking a lot of water (medical reason)
After a while I couldn't stand the taste of it or lack there of.
I'm staying away from sugar and came across these folks.
It contains salt which they claim we are missing the right amount of..

To say that you are on thin ice would be a vastly optimistic view of your current situation. The ice has melted. You are being supported by the surface tension of water.

Given the amount of salt in the average American diet I think claims of salt deprivation are bogus influencer BS, as does most of the medical community.

I've used it.  My wife still does.  It gives me a lasting headache and jacks my blood pressure up (confirmed repeatedly with a blood pressure cuff) even after sweating my rear end off working outside or working out.

You can try something like sugar-free Mio or similar.

I drink it when I work outside and sweat a lot. It is expensive for what it is. There are videos on how to replicate the formula.

It will shock you with how salty their products are and taste.

If you have any heart issues I would pass on LMNT.

Way too much salt, which I discovered after buying a box.

1000mg per serving. Almost have the US RSA.

LMNT claims their use of salt is scientifically based and the US RDA is wrong.

They seem to completely gloss over the well established link between salt and blood pressure.

They are ok.

The Redmond Salt from Utah is good stuff and has a bunch more trace stuff than a lot of the others.  I piss away electrolytes like crazy and my doc recommends it for that purpose.  I put a pinch in my water but they make packets also.

1000 mg isn't much, people blow it way out proportion. If you work in the heat(110+) and sweat a shit load it's necessary. During the summers I was taking in between 7k-10k mg/day. It doesn't taste very good though

thanks folks.
I need something that is sugar free to add to my water..
looks like I will save this for summer months and something else for the winter.

If you're not working in the heat and are getting up there in years, 1000mg can be a lot to the point of too much, especially with respect to blood pressure.

Your use case is good one.. For general hydration when someone isn't sweating like that, LMNT probably isn't the ideal.

It won't matter much for someone in their 20s or 30s, but for 50s+ I'd be pretty cautious with the stuff, especially if you're going to be doing 2-3 packets a day like many do.

As stated, LMMT is pretty salty.

I use sugar free Liquid IV.
I wanted a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one.

I bought some for the Go bag  but don't use it regularly.

I have a daily packet of the Venture Pal electrolytes that Amazon sells. It has the same ingredients as LMNT, but they are a lot cheaper. I usually order a 30 pack for about $16.

I received my monthly subscription box of Mango Chili today. Living in the South will suck you dry of everything. I take it year round. If you get a box of the flavor you prefer break each packet down by an estimated third into a bottle of 16.5 ounce water. Then go from there. I can tell when I don’t take it.

I also gym a good bit, work outside in the high humidity and dew points, and drink approximately 160 ounces of water a day. Good luck, Sir

I use LMNT raspberry salt, one packet in a one liter Nalgene. That’s about 2x diluted as they direct but it works for me.  As directed is too salty.  If I drank that much straight water I would feel woozy.  Only one a day and only when I’m working out at the gym or outside in the heat.

The flavored LMNT packets contain 400mg maltodextrin which isn’t disclosed. The unflavored LMNT do not contain maltodextrin. This was some online outrage about it a year and half ago but fizzled out as far as I know.

ETA, FWIW I also add 10mg of creatine in the bottle.

All those kinds of things are usually best diluted, IMO.

Even old school Gatorade, I used to cut 1:2.

I was using LMNT and the Gatorade sugar-free stuff almost daily - I’d put it in my water bottle before going to the gym. Problem is I’m not a huge sweater unless I’m running outside and it’s humid. When I went in for my annual physical my bloodwork was all jacked up. Sodium and potassium were high, kidney function was off, etc. Cut out the electrolytes for a couple weeks and retested and all was normal again. Those supplements are great IF you really need those elements replenished but most folks really don’t.

I’d suggest Mio. Makes it a lot easier for me to drink water if it has some flavor in it.

I have a packet in a 40oz bottle every morning.  I sweat like crazy when I workout outside and drink about a gallon of water daily.
I love a good double entendre.

Consider fruit juices as well. Just a splash of a stronger juice can do a lot for mixing up the flavor of your water without introducing a whole bunch of sugar. You're also avoiding all of that artificial crap.

My blood pressure has been elevated for a while now and I'm wondering if there's a correlation with the sodium in the electrolytes. I've stopped taking them and am checking to see if my BP gets back into the normal range.

Thanks for the info folks.
I'm going to keep the LMNT mix for the summer.
I picked up some liquid iv and some sugar free gatorade.
