Attached File My younger brother had a Mattel derringer belt buckle and it was advertised on tv. Put a greenie stickem cap on it, fold the spring loaded derringer back into the buckle and it would lock in place. You fired it sticking your belly hard into the buckle and the gun turned on the hinge at the bad guy and fired the cap. Late 50s or early 60s. |

In the 80's we had Entertech electric water guns. The "sidekick" pistol was a 1911. They had the "AK centerfire" and an M16 and an RPG. No red tip either. Considering the Soviet Union was still a thing, it's surprising they pushed the AK so much.  Entertech Water Gun Commercial |

In Texas, I sometimes see plastic ring caps for sale in convenience stores. Usually Hispanic or Asian owned independent places that don't really care about the soft, sensitive crap that we gradually allowed to grow over the decades. In one of the big farmer's market areas in San Antonio, around ten years ago I saw a full aisle of toy guns, roll caps, sheets of the green adhesive caps, the whole deal... in one of the brick & mortar gift shops near the open-air part of the market. Several other guys in the shop were as transfixed by the display as I was - it was truly like a bit of the 1960s was leaking into the present. |

Many rolls of paper caps fell victim to the hammer. I also liked how the spent roll of caps tasted. Rolls of caps do not always detonate; no harm done but I was surprised and never did that again. I am now surprised I was not injured more than I was. Dollar tree was selling them a couple years ago, unsure if they do. Also sold the cap ones where you put individual caps in a revolver and guns to put them in. My Dad was a Marine at El Toro Marine Base in the 60s, and I remember him buying me a toy automatic Thompson SMG. I cocked it and when I pulled the trigger, there was type of speaker inside the non-removable magazine, and there was a red plastic short tube that would go in and out of the muzzle to simulate the muzzle blast. I think I wore that thing out. I also had a M16 like the one John Wayne smashed against the tree in "The Green Berets". |

Does watching G.I. Joe count? Remember having a toy AK. Not sure how it got battle damage, but it turned into a scorpion when the buttstock and front of the barrel broke off. The best part: I kept it in the bin where my Dad kept his rakes and garden tools, kinda like a trash can. |

My two favorite cap guns were a snubnose 38 style and Mac 10. My dad drilled the red thing out of the barrel of the snubnose. It was louder and the barrel flashed. My mom did book keeping out of the house as a side job. One time, when a client came over, I jumped out from around the corner and fired the cap gun at him. I think he believed he was being shot. The Mac 10 type took strip caps. It had a screw on fake suppressor and a retractable wire stock. It was battery operated full auto. It would feed the strip caps through as it fired them. It was a little finicky to get the caps lined up so that the hammer hit them in the right place as it pulled them through. I think both of those cap guns would get you shot by a cop if you pulled them out at night and fired at them. |

We didn’t do the sling shots, we made slings like the Palestinian kids use today. Take a couple leather thongs and a scrap of leather and make a pouch folded the size of a 2” round rock. Tie a knot on the ends to have something to hold on to when you sling it. You could lob a rock further than you could throw it. I’m thinking three times the distance. I’ve still got my sling from those days. Got pretty accurate too and damn dangerous.
